Today, on ??World Blood Donation Day??, I’m reflecting on the profound impact a single act of kindness can have. Did you know that someone in the U.S. needs blood every two seconds? Count 1 and 2, that's 1 need. While you were reading this already 3 persons needed blood. That’s approximately 29,000 units of red blood cells needed every single day. And that's only in the US, globally, the demand is even more staggering. One blood donation can save up to three lives. A ripple effect of hope and survival starts with a single person deciding to give. I did my part today by donating at the American Red Cross. It’s a small gesture I know I should do more often, but it’s my way of honoring this special day. My grandmother, an honorary donor, gave blood more than 100 times. Her legacy is a testament to the power of regular blood donations. Giving birth is a miracle, but saving a life? Knowing that your blood doesn’t just run through the veins of your children, but also flows in someone else out there, connecting you to a stranger in an extraordinary way – that’s truly amazing. So here’s to all the donors who’ve made a difference and to those who are about to take that step. World Blood Donor Day Today is #worldblooddonorday, a day to raise awareness about the importance of donating blood to save lives. As we celebrate this occasion, it often makes me think of situations where people have strong views for example, some religions do not allow people to have blood transfusions. This is a strong view, and it is a perfect example of something that people would want to always have their wish respected. This highlights again the importance of getting a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA). Within the document, you can state your wishes, so in the event something happens to you, and you lose capacity, you can at least have the assurance that your wishes are always going to remain and be fully respected. Donating blood is a selfless act that can save lives, and it is important to support it whenever possible. At the same time, it is equally important to respect people's beliefs and wishes regarding blood, and having an LPA can help ensure that their autonomy and dignity are preserved. Today (Sept 5th) is Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Day, a cause that holds a very special place in my heart and in the heart of Tx Five. As some of you may know, the creation of Tx Five was driven by a personal experience that deeply affected my family. My younger brother suffered a severe spinal cord injury, and he continues to be an inspiration day in, day out. His resilience and positivity serve as a living reminder that no matter what you're faced with, you can overcome it. You can defy the odds and you can choose to make a truly positive impact on those around you. At Tx Five, we believe in making a positive impact not just in the biotech world, but in the wider patient community too. That's why we proudly donate a portion of our fees to Wings for Life, a spinal cord research foundation dedicated to finding a cure for spinal cord injuries. This is just another reminder from Mother Nature that she is in control. I am very proud of our state, community, and Florida friends in how we prepare and help each other. It ceases to amaze me. Although we are very good at rebuilding and healing our wounds as a state, this impact has been a little more powerful than what I have experienced. The main reason is we have not had time to clean up debris and rebuild since Helene and now we have Milton that is going to do a direct hit across our state. So much of our state revenue and jobs is built upon tourism, which puts many out of work right now until we can rebuild in those areas. This could be detrimental to so many great people. Every little bits helps and would make a difference.
