Aside from Luxus, the core focus of my every day, I’ve been involved in an exciting project due for launch this Summer. As many of you know, stepping out of your comfort zone is often where the magic happens. As we head towards the launch of our brewing company and first taproom, I found myself embracing an unexpected challenge: a media day and photoshoot to showcase our brand. For someone more comfortable behind the scenes, this was a leap into the unknown. Here's what I learned from this exhilarating experience… Growth Begins at the Edge of Comfort - Posing for photos and speaking to the camera felt daunting at first. But pushing through that discomfort led to a newfound confidence and excitement about sharing our story with the world. Authenticity Connects - The day was filled with candid moments and genuine interactions. By being ourselves, we were able to convey our passion and vision authentically, which will resonate deeply with our audience. Teamwork Shines Bright - Our amazing team came together, showcasing not just our products but the spirit and camaraderie behind them. It was a powerful reminder that success is a collective effort, built on mutual support and shared enthusiasm. Celebrating Milestones - This photoshoot wasn't just about promoting our launch; it was a celebration of how far we've come. Every snapshot captured our journey, the hard work, and the dreams that have brought us here. As we edge closer to opening our doors, I encourage everyone to step outside their comfort zones and seize the opportunities for growth that lie beyond. Whether it's public speaking, a new project, or simply trying something new, the rewards can be truly transformative. If you're applying for an in-house creative role, please DON'T do THIS ? When I applied for my creative job at Gymshark 5 years ago, I didn't actually know the brand. It was my younger brother who told me they'd be 'worth looking at' (lol). What I had noticed, however, was the job spec. When I read that list of tasks, I was SO excited. It was everything I had dreamt about doing, all wrapped up in one. Sure enough, I went and did my homework on the brand. Studied their socials. Swatted up on their values. Reviewed their campaigns. But more than anything, I obsessed over the role. Throughout my interview, I poured passion into the job in hand. How I felt I could add value. My ideas, my excitement, my determination. To this day, I swear it was my job passion (and not me fan-girling the brand) that got me in the door. I get a lot of people DM me about the brands I work at. "Are there any jobs going at XX??" Whilst I understand and empathise with the idea of working for a brand you 'love', I really recommend you focus a bit more on the role itself. Will you 'love' turning up, day after day, to do those tasks? Will you be able to add value to the role? Will you be able to grow the role? Of course, I'm not saying you can't love the brand. That's great. I'm just saying, brands prefer it when they know you are as passionate about what you do as you are about where you're doing it. #creativity #creativecareers #careeradvice

This post reminded me of a job I applied to years ago as an overnight food stocker for Whole Foods (I didn't know copywriting existed at the time). When I read the job description, I realized it was everything I was looking for, everything that fit my needs, and I was excited about the opportunity to work for them. That said, I attended the group interview...and BOMBED it. To this day, I will NEVER forget to research a company beforehand ever again, because when I was asked if I knew the company's values, I didn't have an answer. That alone was reason enough for the hiring manager to dismiss me (he led me to the door and everything). Back then, I was bitter and hurt, because "my not knowing the company values couldn't possibly affect my work ethic." Yet, looking back at it now, it's still one of my most valued lessons today. It was never about my work ethic, but about having enough concern to research and embody what makes a Whole Foods employee, a Whole Foods employee. So, I research the companies I apply to EVERY time without hesitation and make sure I align with their values. It is SO SO important. #careeradvice #jobsearchadvice #jobsearch

In case you missed it, 3 months ago Steven Bartlett and his team put a call out on LinkedIn for a bunch of roles they were hiring for. They said if the role you were looking for wasn't there, reach out and let them know what your dream role could look like. Naturally, I was coming in HOTTT as a Community Manager after finally accepting it was something I was good at and kept doing. But how was I going to stand out from the rest of the world most likely applying too? Well, if I said I could build community, what better way to prove this than call on the community ?? ?? The plan? Do a post on LinkedIn asking you beautiful people to tag Steven Bartlett in the comments ?? The result? 24k impressions, 9 reposts and 450+ comments tagging Steven, his marketing manager, Grace, paying attention and then jumping on a call with me to chat and hear me pitch my a$$ off ? The outcome? Unfortunately, I never heard back from the team and still haven't so have realised it’s probably not happening. While it was super disappointing and I got myself very excited over the possibility, it made me realise the power of simply going for it. Putting yourself out there and seeing what happens! You literally never know who's watching, reading or quietly lurking and now, I might be helping to build community for another top UK podcaster because they saw the post and reached out. It wasn’t easy, but every step outside that familiar space brought growth and new opportunities. Here are some strategies I’ve used that can help you too. ? Start Small and Build Momentum My journey began with small steps. I remember the first time I attended a major networking event a decade ago. The initial discomfort was real, but by starting with one-on-one conversations, I gradually found my footing. Start with manageable challenges and gradually take on bigger ones. ? Embrace the Unknown One of the most recent pivotal moments was when I took on an opportunity to present at the Unconference Bali. Speaking in front of top tech global leaders was daunting, but it was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. Embracing the unknown and viewing it as a chance to learn can transform your perspective. ? Seek Support and Guidance Throughout my journey, I’ve been fortunate to have mentors and peers who provided support and guidance. Don’t hesitate to seek advice and encouragement from your network. It can make a significant difference. ? Reflect and Learn Every challenge faced is a lesson learned. After each event or project, take time to reflect. What did you learn? What can you improve on? This process of continuous learning keeps you growing and evolving. ? Celebrate Your Progress Finally, celebrate your achievements, no matter how small. Recognising progress keeps you motivated and ready for the next challenge. Each step out of your comfort zone is a step towards your goals. Stepping out of your comfort zone isn’t easy, but it’s where growth happens. I encourage you to take that first step today. Age comes to all of us eventually and in today's world, there's even more pressure to stay young and relevant... Social media encourages image and other people's perception of you to be everything. A presona or character you unwittingly create using only the best things about you, laced with fabrication and exaggeration. There are very few actors in Hollywood now without a perfect hairline and gleaming teeth. I see some of my peers taking selfies on jobs, tagging themselves on stages with crowds behind them, eluding to roles they aren't actually doing and using filters and AI to fix their images. I used to have long, blonde hair in my twenties. Today at 46, after many years of it slowly receding, I finally shaved my head. It hasn't changed who I am. I'm still a lighting tech, an electrician and a team player. A friend, a family member and a colleague. It doesn't matter which venue I'm working in tomorrow or was in yesterday. It doesn't matter that I've never had "manager", "leader" or "creative" in my job title. I don't have Instagram, Facebook, Tik Tok or X and am not worried about how many followers I have on LinkedIn or who looks at me from behind a screen. Anyone who does matter, knows me. This is a photo of me at 19 or 20, taken during London Fashion Week after the show by the studio where I was interning. The interns, including myself, had worked tirelessly for 36 hours straight before the runway show (you can probably see the dark circles under my eyes). María Mediavilla and I have countless stories from this time, best shared over a bottle of wine. Looking back, I was always in such a rush. I was eager to get 'there,' to climb the ladder and reach the next stage. I had a whirlwind of ideas, plans, and ambitions, and I was desperate to achieve them as quickly as possible. In my haste, I missed out on enjoying many moments simply because they weren't the end goal. I was so focused on where I wanted to be that I overlooked the journey itself. With time, I've gained a patience that 19-year-old Georgina couldn't have imagined. Now, as I work on projects, build my business, and plan for future goals, I find joy in the work, the process, and the journey. Yet, every now and then (especially with the influence of social media), I feel a surge of that old frustration, wishing everything would come together faster.
