Loss aversion suggests that individuals experience the fear of loss more intensely than the joy of gain, often leading them to prioritize avoiding potential losses over pursuing potential gains. This mindset can sometimes hinder patients from seeking necessary healthcare interventions. For instance, some patients may avoid seeking a diagnosis to evade confronting potential health issues. Recognizing and understanding this tendency among patients can empower healthcare providers to better anticipate patient behavior and tailor their approach accordingly. In a previous discussion, we explored how reframing communication can profoundly influence patient acquisition and engagement. By presenting information in a more positive context, healthcare providers can potentially encourage patients to embrace necessary steps for their well-being. Behavioral studies serve as a great tool for determining specifically which message resonates best between different cohorts of a clinic's patient population. This approach allows for precise targeting, ensuring tailored messaging that resonates deeply with each patient group, creating stronger connections and engagement. Understanding the distinction of patient psychology enables providers to navigate these challenges effectively, ultimately allowing you to reach more patients in our communities and positively impact their health outcomes. I had the pleasure to talk with Samantha Wildow at the end of 2024 to share insights in two recent Dayton Daily News articles discussing health care trends of 2024 and what we might expect in 2025. ? 2024 was a year of continuing to navigate post-pandemic realities, addressing challenges, and adapting to rapid changes.?As I shared in the articles, the ongoing pressures in health care—rising costs, workforce burnout, and evolving patient needs—are driving organizations and professionals to rethink their strategies, tactics, and execution.? ? Looking forward into 2025, add to the pressure potential revenue loss in medical care due to a 2.93% reduction of the CY 2025 CMS Physician Fee Schedule.?But many organizations are expanding their offerings to enhance access and care delivery; artificial intelligence is stepping in to assist with workloads, creating more efficient workflows for healthcare professionals; and significant investments are being made across sectors to address service gaps.? ? These conversations and stories are a reminder of the resilience and adaptability in health care and how much can be accomplished when creative, willing, and engaged participants come together to solve complex challenges. ? Scott Nelson was quoted in the Dayton Daily News articles, "Hospitals adjust to post-COVID needs, mental health worsened: Top health care stories from 2024" and "Increased costs, new tech, and more on mental health: What might you see with health care in 2025."?He shares several of his observations and thoughts about health care in 2024 and 2025, including how telehealth and digital health services proved essential during the COVID-19 pandemic, and many organizations are expanding their offerings to enhance access and care delivery; artificial intelligence is stepping in to assist with workloads, creating more efficient workflows for healthcare professionals; significant investments are being made across sectors to address mental and behavioral health service gaps; and decisions and results due to organizational financial performance.? ? The move into specialty care from Included Health puts it in rare company: >It has deep roots in specialty care from Grand Rounds Health's virtual second opinions >It offers integrated virtual care through Doctor On Demand's on-demand visits for both physical and mental health >It's one of the largest care navigators in the country by member count >It's grown a nationwide network of 4,000+ specialists and collaborates with over 40 health systems (not to mention a seriously well-rounded partner ecosystem) Few orgs have the resources / scale / track record to try and coordinate the same breadth of offerings (e.g. Teladoc, Transcarent), and even fewer are diving into the deep end of specialty care. Not a lot of competition in those waters, and a huge opportunity if Included gets it right. Owen Tripp Craig Rowley Holly Spring Victoria Khamsombath
