This was the first ever viral video I created for a client of my Instagram social media management service. I was trying something completely new here. I wanted to show the viewers how this restaurant makes julienned cucumbers because it's not the most common way cucumbers are prepared. When initially editing the video, I had thoughts of using a trending Instagram song, like something from Sabrina Carpenter or Dua Lipa. But I chose not to and instead did my own thing. I chose "Regulate" by Warren G as the background song to create my own style (and since I love 90's rap and hip hop), and that's a lesson right there you don't have to use trending songs for your posts to do better (although it can help). I wanted to make this clip as cool as possible, so I used a lot of speed ramps and color-graded the heck out of it. I filmed this in 4K and when I exported the video (in 1080p format), I cranked the bitrate to the highest possible setting. If you have the storage, definitely film your videos in 4K and export with the highest bitrate you can. It will take more storage space and time to download but the quality will look like it's 8K. I used RunwayML for the slowed-down part of the chef cutting the cucumber. If I slowed it down that much in the video editor (Premiere Pro), there would be artifacts and a loss of smoothness. What RunwayML can do is dramatically increase the frame rate of slowed-down footage so it's super smooth and not choppy. Finally, for this post, I gave detailed instructions on how to prepare these julienned cucumbers. The longer the viewer reads the post, the better the post will do. And when I woke up the next day, I found out that this video went viral. I just gave you the entire formula. What does senior boy poses have to do with traction on social media? I made this for Instagram, where the target audience is teenagers, young adults, and parents. This platform is different from other platforms like Facebook or Twitter. Making an effective post on Instagram is more than just trending sounds. You have to assume that people watching your content have an attention span of 3 seconds before they scroll. In those 3 seconds, you can do one of three things: Tell them exactly how this content will help them #AddValue? Show something eye catching #VisualHook Use trending mannerisms that keep attention #ProofOfConcept What I learned: This was not an easy task (which is great, problem solving is my thing) Platform specific content requires flexing a new muscle—a lot. I was given the assignment to do content creation. There were little to no rules—total creative freedom. I wanted to find a way to combine @StudioBPortraits film and my personality in a way that would fit with current trends on social media and gain traction. *** I love this! Life has been busy, and I have been going from project to project and have realised how neglectful I have been with my LinkedIn page. As well as PR consultancy, editing, and copywriting, I have been lucky enough to have been hosting panels and chairing interesting discussions online and at wonderful events like Newsworks //MADFest. Having interviewed everyone from the likes of Sir Trevor McDonald (yes, THE Sir Trevor McDonald), Anthony Joshua, Stanley Tucci, Jada Pinkett-Smith, John Legend, and many more over the years, it’s fair to say I love to chat and ask the questions people want the answers to in a fun and brand-friendly way which we all know is so vital these days. My job as a host is keeping discussions balanced, focused, and energizing for the audience and panel alike. A successful panel isn’t just about what’s said on stage - it's also about connecting with the audience. Building rapport with panelists is also key. It’s been a challenging few months with new clients and growing pains. We’re growing up as a business, learning from our mistakes, making adjustments and doing all the boring (but essential) stuff. I’m used to having to be comfortable with the uncomfortable, and it’s been a sustained period of this - to the point where I was getting close to burnout. Our new team members Joanne Dixon and Jemma C. Have been lights at the end of the tunnel. Fresh energy and a positive force for good. We also have a mentor and Jedi master Mike Carter who has guided us, given us the tough love and sage advice that’s made the last 12 months progressive and profitable. He’s an old boss of mine, personal friend and Vistage Chair - if you want to grow as a business I highly recommend him. Seriously, we’ve seen it first hand. Running and building a business is hard. It’s a different skill set to what I started with. I had the desire and some of the tools, but I had no idea how much energy and mental focus it would take. I’m learning hard lessons every day. The next few months are chokka block with new client projects and exciting opportunities. We’re also learning to say no, and trust in our expertise over financial leverage. We’re in it for the love of solving problems, creating beautiful and effective brands and doing work that gives us fulfilment. That comes first. I forgot I was sharing the post! Jemma has had an impressive start - the kind that gives you a real boost and reminds you what’s important.
It’s all go at Royal Flush HQ with another great addition to our growing team. ?? ? Jemma, our new Marketing Executive, is super organised – to the extent that she has a spreadsheet for everything, including her gym routine. She’s also logged and reviewed every single movie that she’s ever seen! ?? ? It’s that level of obsession that made us jump at the chance to hire her. This will free up our creatives to focus on what they do best. ? When she’s not copywriting or planning content, Jemma loves live music and theatre and is mad about Metallica, Iron Maiden, Aerosmith, and all things 80s rock (and all things 80s in general). ?? So, the studio stereo is going up to 11 from now on.? ? We thought we were pretty good before; we’re taking it to the next level now. ? #digitalmarketing?#marketingagency?#newjob

?? Behind the Scenes of Content Creation ?? Today was one of those days where the reality of filming content for social media was painful. I found myself with 6 costume changes, 56 takes, 4 room moves, and countless rounds of feedback from my perfectionist business partner (who also happens to be my husband). All this effort just to create 4 videos, each 45 seconds long! ?? By the end of the afternoon, my newly cleaned kitchen, dining room, and lounge looked like a tornado hit them. But you know what? I did it! And now I can put the camera away for a little while. Honestly, I much prefer live videos, there's something refreshing about the spontaneity of it all. If I stumble, I can just pick myself up and carry on without the pressure of perfection. But I guess there are always parts of business you love and parts you just get on with.
