I’ve been quiet on LinkedIn for a couple of weeks. Sorry to everyone who follows me. I’m back now though. I wanted to post and remind you that there’s many ways of doing a job, especially the job of leadership. I don’t just mean many ways of solving a problem, but also many different types of personality and characters who can lead. There’s an idea that you need to be domineering, forceful, and direct to be a leader. I don’t agree with this. I actually think it’s a bit of a sexist construct. I’ve met plenty of domineering, forceful, and direct women, but these traits are ones society often associates with men. When women display them, we tend to get called aggressive. Anyhow, to be a leader, you need to communicate, get the best from people, encourage and motivate, not tell people what to do. I guess it depends on your definition of leader verses controller. #leadership #womeninleadership #hr #humanresources

With a decade of experience as a life coach, specializing in women's personal and professional life development, I've witnessed countless women grappling with leadership challenges in the workplace. Time and again, I've seen brilliant, capable women feel pressured to adopt a "tough" or "bossy" persona to be taken seriously. But let me tell you, there's a more effective path – one that aligns with your natural strengths. Reflect for a moment. Have you ever felt compelled to assert your authority forcefully? When managing a complex project or dealing with a difficult team member? How did that turn out? In my experience coaching women leaders, I've found that this approach often backfires, creating tension and resistance. Now, imagine a different way. A leadership style where you: 1. Listen actively, giving your full attention to your team's ideas and concerns. 2. Practice empathy, truly understanding the challenges your colleagues face. 3. Set the standard through your actions, embodying the work ethic and attitude you wish to see. 4. Cultivate relationships founded on trust and mutual respect. This, my dear, is the essence of moving from authority to influence. It's not about being "soft" – it's about being strategic and effective. As a coach, I've observed that women often possess exceptional emotional intelligence and relationship-building skills. These are your superpowers in the modern workplace! I've guided numerous women through this transformation, and the results are consistently impressive. They achieve better outcomes when they shift their focus from commanding to influencing. Their teams become more creative, and more dedicated, and together they foster a positive work environment that benefits everyone. Now, I'd like to invite you to reflect on your own journey. Sharing these experiences not only aids your personal growth but also inspires other women on similar paths. #womeninleadership #positiveworkenvironment #lifecoachanamika #femaleleaders #influenceoverauthority

The past few weeks have reminded me of a repeated lesson, set boundaries around what I call "forced moments"-- those moments of unsolicited advice. Now it's important to decipher thoughtful and invested feedback and these forced moments. Invested feedback can be transformative but does require a level of understanding of your goals. Without this, it is important to maintain a lens to your own values. Remember that judgement about life choices links more to others experiences rather than your own. Sometimes even accomplished leaders struggle to move past their own vision of what success, impact, or communication look like. This limitation puts them at risk of bias. It is imperative when talking with women, minorities, or others that look different to consider asking what is important to them rather than assuming. Remember, ?? Set boundaries in accepting others baggage or expectations. ?? Know your worth. ?? A woman's journey in leadership should be supported. ?? Know that you are on the right path for you at this moment in time. What do you do when you realize you are having a forced moment? #boundaries #worth #outofthebox #womeninmedicine #leadership #healthcareonlinkedin

In the corporate world, where competition and pressure often dominate, it's essential to remember that every individual is fighting a battle we may not see. Personal struggles—whether stress, health issues, or emotional challenges—are often left unspoken, yet they deeply impact one's work and interactions. By fostering a culture of kindness and empathy, leaders and colleagues can create a supportive environment where individuals feel valued beyond their professional output. This approach not only builds stronger teams but also drives productivity and innovation, as people are more willing to contribute their best when they feel understood and supported. Compassion is not a weakness in business; it’s a strength that transforms organizations and empowers individuals. #Corporate #empathy #EmotionalChallenges #Compassion #Leadership

"The Absent Father Effect: A Call to Action for Leaders and Mentors" As leaders, mentors, and change-makers, we often focus on professional development, but overlook the profound impact of personal experiences on our lives. I recently read "The Absent Father Effect on Daughters" by Susan E. Schwartz, which shed light on the lasting effects of father absence on women's lives. Key takeaways: 1. Father absence can shape self-perception, relationships, and career choices. 2. Unconscious patterns can emerge, influencing decision-making and confidence. 3. Mentor and sponsor women, acknowledging their unique experiences. 3. Foster inclusive cultures, addressing systemic barriers. Let's recognize the absent father effect and: 1. Support women's empowerment initiatives. 2. Encourage intergenerational dialogue. 3. Develop emotional intelligence. Together, we can: Break cycles of trauma Empower women to thrive Create a more compassionate workplace Share your thoughts: How has your personal experience shaped your leadership style? What initiatives support women's empowerment in your organization? #TheAbsentFatherEffect #Leadership #Mentorship #WomenEmpowerment #InclusiveCulture #EmotionalIntelligence #PersonalGrowth #ProfessionalDevelopment

If you have a brain, you have a bias. Unconscious biases shape our judgments about people or groups without us even realising it. These biases impact decisions in the workplace, education, and our daily interactions. As leaders, recognising and challenging biases is essential for breaking down barriers and promoting inclusivity. The first step? Know your biases. Here are three ways to start: Challenge Assumptions: If you catch yourself making generalisations about a group based on characteristics like race, gender, or age, it might be a bias at play. Question Beliefs: Be aware of confirmation bias—actively seek diverse perspectives and challenge your own beliefs. Watch Your Language: Subtle discriminatory language or behaviours could be indicators of underlying biases. Understanding why we hold these biases empowers us to challenge and break ties with them, paving the way for inclusive leadership. Ready to dive deeper? Such an eye-opening statistic! Self-awareness seems to be a vital yet overlooked aspect of leadership. Understanding ourselves better can profoundly impact our effectiveness as leaders and the overall success of our organisations. But why do you think self-awareness isn't prioritised more among leaders? Is it due to a lack of awareness of its importance, or are there other factors at play? I'd love to hear your insights and experiences on this topic #SelfAwareness #LeadershipDevelopment #PersonalGrowth

The number of self-aware leaders is just 10%, did you know that? Following up on my previous post about self-awareness, a study published in Harvard Business Review noted that only 10% of leaders are self-aware. It appears that gender plays a role: Only 4% of men and 19% of women executives showed self-awareness. Why is it important? Research suggests that when we see ourselves clearly, we: 1- Become more confident and creative. 2- We can make better decisions 3- Form stronger relationships 4- Become more efficient in communicating 5 - We are less likely to cheat, steal, and lie 6 - Better work quality results in a higher promotion rate. 7 - Become more effective leaders with happier employees and more profitable businesses. Fortunately, self-awareness can be developed. It's not like we have a set amount. We can become more successful leaders—and better human beings—by seeing ourselves objectively. The more self-aware we become, the more we can improve all aspects of our lives. In the words of the great psychoanalyst Carl Jung: “Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.” So, given the statistics, you have to wonder why self-awareness is not at the top of leaders' minds. Let me know your thoughts. #selfawareness #leadership #leadershipdevelopment #personalgrowth #psychologytoday #leadershipskills #transformationalleadership
