This article takes a fascinating look at the potential for pausing or even stopping treatments in solid tumors, such as kidney, prostate, colorectal, and HER2-positive breast cancer. With targeted therapies now keeping cancer in check for longer periods, taking breaks from treatment could significantly improve patients’ quality of life by easing side effects. There are also economic advantages, with treatment breaks offering substantial savings for healthcare systems. However, monitoring cancer recurrence remains a challenge, as current methods like imaging and liquid biopsies aren’t as precise as those used in blood cancers.
