Not all students who sit for placements in IIT Madras get jobs. IIT Madras is the best engineering colleges in India as per GOI NIRF ranking. Approx 700 students are still unplaced in Indian Institute of Technology, Madras and the placement season is almost over Earnest appeal to various stakeholders: To, Parents: Please provide required the "emotional support" to your child who might not be placed yet or might not have received very high package. Please back them up emotionally. To, Alumni: Please provide the career related guidance to the jobseekers, at the very least. Best would be if you could give referrals. Your help will be most appreciated. To, IITs: Please allow the unplaced students to sit in the next placement season. They deserve a second chance. Hopefully hiring scenario will get improve by then. Also, please leverage your 30,000-50,000 alumni base to get some work opportunities for the unplaced students. To, Students: Please try to accept a job offer as getting employed is much more important in a down market than maximising CTC which is done in up market. Improve CV, skills levels, learn to do networking and seek job stability over high CTC initially. First gain experience and visibility in job. Value will come later. Don't chase savings in the first job in a down market. Market changes with time. Down market this year can change into Up market next year. So make "good" decisions as per market cycles. Hon. "Amid the hiring slowdown among freshers, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jammu and IIT Palakkad are yet to?place 50 percent and 57 percent of their students, respectively. According to a Right to Information (RTI) filed by Dheeraj Singh, IIT Kanpur alumnus and founder of Global IIT Alumni Support Group, out of the 251 students of IIT Jammu who registered for placements, only 126 were able to receive job offers in the ongoing placement round. Based on the data seen by?Moneycontrol, in the 2023 placement season, only 33 students were not placed in IIT Jammu compared to 125 in the current placement season. Similarly at IIT Palakkad, 118 students, out of 273 who registered, received jobs or were placed through campus placements (including via pre-placement offers) in 2024 till date. Moneycontrol?has written to both IITs for comments and the story will be updated accordingly. Although the median salary at IIT Palakkad remained stable from 11.5 lakh per annum (LPA) in 2023 to 12 LPA in 2024, IIT Jammu experienced a major drop. In 2023, IIT Jammu recorded a median salary of 16 LPA, it currently stands at 11 LPA. To be sure, the placement is still ongoing and the numbers could change in the future. Earlier this month, Singh claimed that around?30 percent of students in the top-ranked older IITs??remain unplaced,?while around 50 percent of students in the newer IITs are still awaiting placement. IIT Madras said, “Students have varied interests - to pursue higher studies, some want to establish their own startups and venture into entrepreneurship, while some want to attempt competitive exams including civil services. They take time to decide. The placement data will be available at the end of July 2024, post convocation,” the institute told Moneycontrol in a statement." https://lnkd.in/gcQZE9f3

45% Placement Shortfall: A Cause for Concern for all IITs A significant rise in the number of unplaced students compared to previous years. The IIT Madras data reveals that out of a total of 2,100 students registered for placements, only 1,150 have secured offers in Phase 1 or Phase 2. This leaves a worrying figure of 950 students still awaiting job offers. With recruiters being cautious of “over-hiring" and tech firms looking for “specialised" roles instead of pure software profiles, the placement season across the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) has started on an uneven note this year. Good opportunities for Mid-sized companies to attract this brilliant talent. Similarly, this bright lot of elite candidates may be open to join select start-ups too. 50% of IIT Delhi grads are skipping traditional jobs. What about today’s students? Career paths aren’t what they used to be—and they shouldn’t be. According to IIT Delhi’s latest exit survey: ?? 8.4% of grads chose self-employment. ?? 13.5% opted for higher education like PhDs. ?? 12.1% are preparing for civil services. ?? Only 53.1% are heading into corporate jobs. What does this reveal about today’s students? It’s a clear reminder that one size does NOT fit all. Every student has unique goals, challenges, and strengths. What works for one might not work for another—and that’s perfectly fine. #rightguidance #careerplanning #studentsuccess #futureofwork #personalizedcareers #IITdelhi #careerchoices

IIT Bombay could not give jobs to 25% of its graduates 38% of IITian across 23 campuses are unemployed. Most of the IIMs are struggling to get placements for their students. The story is more dire for other colleges and other streams in India. Several studies have indicated that only 1 in 4 MBAs, 1 in 5 engineers, and 1 in 10 graduates are employable. I can relate to this firsthand as we interview hundreds of candidates year-round for various fresher positions. Both educational institutions and, more importantly, the young graduating students must make a massive effort?to skill themselves so that they are employable. It is high time that higher educational institutions move away from irrelevant curriculums and learning methodologies that will not benefit the students. A paradigm shift is also needed in the mindset of young job seekers. Most of them want to have the top remunerations without exhibiting an intent to work hard, take ownership, and perform. #employmentcrisis #jobs #workethics #careers #highereducation #reality

Top IITs See a Drop in Campus Placements Key Highlights: Decline in Placement Rates: IITs have witnessed a drop in placement rates for the 2023-24 academic year compared to 2022-23. Placement percentages for IITs like Bombay, Delhi, Kanpur, Roorkee, Guwahati, and Kharagpur show mixed trends, with some institutions experiencing a fall in placement offers. Data Insights: IIT Bombay: Placement rate dropped from 82% (2022-23) to 75% (2023-24). IIT Guwahati: Declined from 82.16% to 74.53%. IIT Kanpur: Slight drop from 78% to 74%. IIT Roorkee and Kharagpur: Faced small fluctuations but maintained relatively stable placement rates. Reasons for the Drop: A shift in hiring trends due to global economic uncertainties and changing job markets. Students opting for higher studies or taking off-campus opportunities instead of relying solely on campus placements. Layoffs and slowdowns in key industries, such as software and IT, post-pandemic. Recovery Trends: The article mentions that 2022 witnessed a surge in placements after the COVID-19 pandemic but the market has slowed down again. Companies are now more selective and cautious about hiring due to economic uncertainties and fluctuating job markets. Alternative Career Paths: Many students are exploring alternative routes such as: This highlights a #decline in #placement rates across major Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) for the academic year 2023-24 compared to the previous year. Data from IIT Bombay, Delhi, Kanpur, Roorkee, Guwahati, and Kharagpur reveals that most institutes witnessed a drop of 5-8% in placements, with IIT Guwahati facing the sharpest decline of 7.63 percentage points, while IIT Roorkee showed slight improvement. The primary reasons for this decline include a global economic slowdown, cost-cutting measures, and changing hiring trends, particularly in the IT and software sectors that experienced layoffs. Moreover, there is a shift in student preferences, with many opting for higher education, independent job searches via platforms like LinkedIn, and pursuing entrepreneurship rather than relying solely on campus placements. Industry-specific challenges, such as selective hiring in core engineering fields and reduced traditional job roles due to automation, further contributed to the trend. While placements have slowed after the post-pandemic hiring surge of 2022, IITs are introducing new programs and courses to make students more industry ready. Surveys also indicate that many graduates are diversifying their career paths, including 10.3% securing jobs independently, 8.3% opting for higher education, and 1.6% starting their own ventures. Despite the decline, IITs remain competitive as students adapt to evolving market dynamics and explore opportunities beyond traditional campus placements, leveraging their skills to thrive in a changing economic landscape. #iitplacement #drop #iitbombay #iitguwahati #covid #job #students #employment #skills #iitkharagpur #market #growth
