“Hostage rescue” and “Search and rescue” are interrelated, but have 2 very different meanings and relate to 2 different audiences. They are both a variation of the same theme, but involve different teams, equipment and threats. Both are complex and can be interlinked depending on the operational threat and needs. Normally we focus on the tactical element, specific to counter terror (hostage rescue) aspect of equipment. Today we will switch direction and focus on the “#Search and #rescue” aspect. Most recently we have introduced a new helmet which caters for all the emergency service teams. This includes "Search & rescue" teams requiring protection/certification linked to the following threats: EN 16471?????????????????#Wildland and firefighting EN 16473?????????????????#Technical Rescue EN 12492?????????????????#Alpine/High angle rescue EN 1385???????????????????Swift/Water rescue As well as being UKCA approved we cater for organisations who need a helmet system meeting the various dangers associated with their employment. Our ATR-1 rescue helmet made its UK debut most recently at the Emergency Services Show (ESS) in the UK and really made an impact, excuse the pun.

The escalating wildfires in Los Angeles have necessitated innovative and robust solutions. On January 10, 2025, U.S. Northern Command activated eight C-130 aircraft equipped with Modular Aerial Fire Fighting Systems MAFFS to combat these devastating fires. This deployment highlights the critical role of military resources in supplementing civilian firefighting capabilities, especially during periods of high demand. The MAFFS system, a collaboration between the U.S. Forest Service and the Department of Defense, has been a vital tool since its inception in 1971. Designed to be loaded into C-130 aircraft without structural modifications, MAFFS allows these military planes to function as aerial firefighting tankers. This integration underscores the adaptability and readiness of military units to support civil authorities in managing large-scale emergencies. Each MAFFS-equipped C-130 can drop up to 3,000 gallons of fire retardant in less than 10 seconds across a quarter-mile line. The aircraft can be refilled and airborne again in less than 20 minutes after landing, ensuring rapid and continuous firefighting operations. This capability is crucial in managing established fires, although the MAFFS aircraft are not Initial Attack IA qualified and require an Aerial Supervision Module/Lead Plane to conduct drops. General Gregory Guillot, Commander of U.S. Northern Command, emphasized the importance of this mission: 'Providing support to civil authorities is a valued part of our homeland defense mission. We’re well-practiced and in position to support the Federal Emergency Management Agency FEMA, National Interagency Firefighting Center NIFC, and the state of California to assist the many citizens in need.' This deployment not only provides immediate relief to the raging fires in Los Angeles but also underscores the importance of interagency cooperation and the readiness of military units to adapt to various emergency situations. Looking forward, the integration of military resources in disaster response is likely to become more prevalent as wildfires and other large-scale emergencies continue to pose significant threats. #WildfireResponse #MAFFS #MilitarySupport https://lnkd.in/eycq5765

The US Military needs to take over the California fires. And media needs to stop blaming the Ukraine and start blaming California leadership. This is, like Jan 6, 2021, just criminal negligence and poor planning by California; and lack of federal oversight by FEMA/ DHS. US MILITARY can evacuate up to 1 million a day from anywhere. California has the largest concentration of US military in the nation, especially USAF, and air power. We can carry enough sea water per helicopter flight - 30 minutes from the sea- to put out up to 70 acres (based on water : acre ratio from prior Calif fires). DOD - including 2,700 air reserve at Edwards AFB - could have air-lifted out victims, pets, animal shelters, human shelters, wildlife, horses - in minutes. The key to a fire is to look at the front and side perimeter measurements - the military using sea water could have stopped or slowed these fires if called in immediately; before they grew. ___ US Military Capabilities that could save California: 1. Evacuation 2. Sea Water Bucket flights - up to 3. Cloud Seeding 4. Manpower (evacuation, physical labor, fire breaks, etc) 5. Air & Satellite Surveillance / AI Fire Management / Multi-Domain Control ________ 1. EMERGENCY EVACUATION - - LAX averages 700 take-offs (140,000 people)/day. Those flights could be ordered instead to transport evacuees. - USAF flights can transport 1,000 per jet. L.A. Air Force Base and other USAF bases nearby, could theoretically evacuate 1 million / day. San Diego has 230 stationed aircraft; Edwards AFB has 90, etc. - Chinooks can carry 16,000 lbs of cargo - animals/pets/wildlife; heavy firefighting equipment - and can use hospital/ corporate landing pads. 2. SEA WATER BUCKETS - Each Chinook or other large heli can sling-carry 3,150 gallons of sea water. Enough to put out 30-70 acres per bucket. - The Hollywood fire - 43 acres - could have been put out with 2 flights. 1 hour. Using 1 Chinook. Or 30 minutes using 2 Chinooks. ______ The fires are tripling in size every 4 hrs. The Sunset fire grew from 43 acres to 17,500. One Chinook sea water bucket could have put it out initially. This is tragic. And the lack of US Military management is clear: once the traditional source of fresh water (hydrants) ran out, civilian personnel did not know how to respond. Military would immediately have thought of nearby sea water; or foam picked up from storage. Russia, Indonesia, and other countries have also used cloud-seeding successfully in very large wildfires.

Recent wildfires in Los Angeles County, including the wind-driven #HughesFire, have received a massive aerial fire suppression response. Over 60 aircraft, strategically assigned or pre-positioned across Southern California, have been working tirelessly to protect lives, property, and natural resources. Since January 7, 2025, these aircraft have delivered over 3.1 million gallons of water and nearly 600,000 gallons of retardant to combat six major wildfires. Under unified command, CAL FIRE, alongside, local, tribal, and federal partners, is leveraging every available resource to halt the spread of these wind-driven fires and protect our communities. In addition to the fixed-wing assets flying by day, night-qualified, water-dropping helicopters are in the air, allowing us to attack fires 24/7. We remain committed to keeping you informed. Stay alert, follow evacuation orders, and stay tuned for updates. #CALFIRE #HughesFire #WildfireResponse #UnifiedCommand #FireSuppression #EmergencyResponse #SoCal Joe Tyler Anale Burlew Nick Schuler, CFO, PIO

Is Sweden leading the charge in wildfire preparedness across Europe? Sweden plays a key role in the European Union's wildfire response efforts as part of the rescEU program, providing four Air Tractor, Inc. AT-802F FireBoss aircraft to help combat forest fires. These aircraft, managed by Sweden’s MSB (Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency) in partnership with a flight operator, are on standby 24/7 during the European summer wildfire season and have been deployed on six international operations since 2020. As the EU continues to build a unified response to wildfires, these aircraft are available for deployments outside of Sweden, contributing to a more robust European preparedness. Two aircraft are committed to the fleet until 2025, while two others are serving throughout 2024. How do you think this collaboration will influence the EU’s long-term wildfire response strategy? Good to see them matching solid performing water sources with the new larger copters.
When battling larger, faster-burning, and more frequent wildfires that are our reality, time matters to the second, precision matters to the foot, and volume of water matters to the gallon. Monday, we bolstered our wildfire firefighting arsenal with a dedicated helicopter water source, strategically located in Aliso Viejo. The result of the collaboration and support of the Orange County Board of Supervisors, the Aliso Viejo Community Association, the Moulton Niguel Water District, and the OCFA Board of Directors, this HeloPod is an example of what can happen when we work together for our communities, for the people we are sworn to serve, and the firefighters on the front lines. We are grateful for our partners who continue to support us as we mitigate the threat of wildfires to our communities and around California. #WildlandFirefighter #AirOps #Helicopter
