Today is Election Day in the United States, a reminder of the choices we make and the communities we shape. Thinking back to my first vote in fifth grade for class president, I remember the excitement of making a decision that mattered. The Rotary Club San Francisco reflects this commitment to civic engagement in its election process. Candidates submit a statement of purpose, answer role-specific questions, and are reviewed by a nominating committee of recent past presidents and active members, led by our president-elect. After this, candidates are elected at our annual meeting and begin their terms six months later. This approach unites experience with fresh ideas, selecting leaders who embody Rotary’s values. As Past Rotary International President Paul Harris said, “Whatever Rotary may mean to us, to the world it will be known by the results it achieves.” Today, as millions cast their votes, I am reminded that civic engagement is not just about Election Day; it is a lifelong commitment to serve and to build stronger communities.
