I predict one day Amazon will fail. Amazon will go bankrupt. This was Jeff Bezos’s response to an employee’s question during 2018’s all-hands meeting in Seattle. The employee was curios about Amazon’s future and at the same time worried looking at the recent bankruptcy of one of the major retailer in USA - Sears. Everyone in the meeting were shocked to hear Bezos. He started with those statements with the intention to explain the need to “obsess over customers and their needs” He continued, requesting his team to work even harder to invent new products and services that please customers For him, that's the only way to "delay" the inevitable death for as long as possible. Many times companies start to focus on what they want rather than what the customer needs And that’s the beginning of the end. I understand that it’s very hard - - Not to focus on the competition - Not to get bogged down by the daily grind of your work - Not to get annoyed by silly customer requests We need to constantly remind ourselves that - Everything flows from the customer and "Customer Obsession" is the key to building companies that last #wisewednesdays #customerobsession

Amazon's current business venture isn't a new growth or earnings opportunity, but one of downsizing. Currently Amazon leadership has looked to incur layoffs and cut off support for previously beloved products which can now be considered almost obsolete. These decisions could negatively affect the retention for employees wanting to possibly return, or even customers who continue to use the products that no longer have support behind them. Only in the future can we tell if this new direction will strengthen or weaken the company of Amazon.

Just walk away Amazon essentially dropping the “just walk out” store technology, many reasons given, but it is likely quite simple, cost v return. It is important to remember the headlines and hold on to them for a few years to see how things work out. Amazon was going to upend physical retail by bringing the best of e-commerce to physical environments, like the 5-star store. Did you ever go there? Funnily enough the top selling items were things like the latest #harrypotter book, shocker! It didn’t work and they are being shut down. Just walk out was super cool the first time you went, you would feel like. Shoplifter, but seems they are not going to upend retail, as expected. Walmart and Target are starting to drop self checkout too, seems humans are still needed. #retail #retailtech #beindtheheadline The Wall Street Journal #shoppable

The Most Curious Person in Multifamily I Being Curious about Investing and Operations. Posts are about my curious journey.
Amazon Warehouses How many are there in the US? Why it's important Every Amazon warehouse has hundreds of employees. I would guess at least half of those employees are renters. The more warehouses, the more employees that rent, the greater the opportunity to provide housing for them. There 1,209 Amazon Warehouses in the US. The smallest is 10,000 SF. The largest is 4,085,000 SF. There are more than 16 that are larger than 3,000,000 SF. Hey Amazon want to talk about a housing partnership for your employees?

Amazon finally made good on its $100M promise in Johnston County/Town Of Smithfield, NC from 3 years back: The company (quietly, which surprised me) opened a 620,000 square-foot cross dock facility (different from a distribution center) in late February, company and local officials confirmed to Triangle Business Journal. The opening of the facility is a big deal for Smithfield, which averaged less than 100 people moving into town between 2010-2022, per U.S. Census Bureau estimates. One of the most direct impacts: Amazon said the facility will create more than 1,000 new jobs -- up from the 500 they had promised back in 2021. Amazon proudly markets itself as “customer-obsessed.” But bad news blindsided the e-commerce giant’s customer service employees across the globe in mid-May: More layoffs had arrived. This time, it was middle managers. Will Amazon continue to outsource even more customer interactions to third-party firms? Are current employees unknowingly training an AI replacement under the guise of a new software tool that management is forcing them to use? How far off is complete automation of their roles? Throughout Fortune’s conversations with a dozen Amazon customer service employees, one common theme emerged: The workers believe the future of their work is more tenuous than it was yesterday and more difficult than ever before. Amazon said today it would require employees to return to the office five days per week, effective Jan. 2, 2025. In addition, managers will be required to perform 15% more work by the end of the first quarter of 2025. Why? Rumour has it that layoffs were coming and this is a way to get a Reduction in Force, as some resignations are expected. Is this a good strategy? #Amazon #RTO
