TAKE CONTROL of ARC FLASH Knowledge it Power! Jason's story is compelling and the key to ensuring electrical incidents like his unfortunate incident do not occur is developing, implementing and auditing a compliant Electrical Safety Program that the Qualified Person is trained on and audited against its' requirements. NFPA 70E requires that an Electrical Safety Program includes Field Audit. Had Jason been using an Energized Electrical Job Safety Planning (EEJSP) form he would have been wearing appropriate arc flash and shock PPE. That said the Electrical Safety Program includes a policy to de-energize any work tasks that involve energized repair or alteration which I believe his electrical incident occurred from. The ESP includes an Energized Electrical Work Permit (EEWP) Policy, for the work task Jason completed it would have required an EEWP and most likely would not have proceeded as there would have been NO justification. The ESP uses a documented qualitative risk assessment procedure, work task based and each work task would also be identified as requiring an EEWP or not (if it is exempted) and separately an EEJSP.
