Last weekend The Judy was abuzz with activity as it played host to some of the #PDXBookFest events in downtown Portland! Literary Arts puts on this annual event and this year many YA, middle grade, and youth workshops and panels were hosted at the Judy (home of the Northwest Children's Theater.) It's a SERA project we love, and we love seeing it be used for other fun arts & culture events in our community! #pdx #books #theater

This is very cool! Congratulations to High Desert Playback, and kudos to the City of ABQ for their ingenuity. ?? In the plans we made at Creative Startups for both the New Mexico EDD's new Creative Industries Division and the City of Sacramento's Office of Arts and Culture, we recommended artist-led censusing/surveying activities, and this looks like an awesome example of just that! Cultural workers are acutely sensitive and curious communicators who are well-positioned to lead community outreach. When you have artists designing and implementing these surveying activities—not merely advertising them—you gain more sensitive insight into community needs across large, diverse collections of citizens. There is more buy-in, more passion, and a bigger feeling of interconnectedness between everyone who participates—an oft-desired but elusive goal for public censusing efforts. The information can be more accurate and revealing, and people feel better heard than they do when they bubble in boxes. People will remember the way they answered a creatively designed "survey" experience, and they will feel more connected and involved with the efforts to follow up on that survey. Excited to hopefully see more examples like this—which are mutually beneficial opportunities for both creative entrepreneurs and the communities they live in and care about—across New Mexico and beyond! =)

Would be curious for thoughts here. As arts and nonprofits face new challenges with AI, what happened the last time the world was faced with a change so drastic? Comment below!
I've been looking for writing or resources around the theater organizations' responses to the rise and adoption of the internet in the late 90s. It seems to me that it must have fundamentally changed how we made theater, but I can't find much about that adaptation or what the general vibe was while it was happening. So I'm turning to y'all: Were you working in or leading a theater organization around 1997-2002? How did your organization respond to the internet? What were the questions that it brought up at the time? Was there a lot of skepticism about it? Did it actually change how we worked as arts administrators in the drastic way that it seems? Can't wait to hear your stories! #TheaterEvolution #DigitalArtsHistory #ArtsLeadership #InternetEra #TheaterAdministration

When we discuss equity in education, we must also discuss accessibility and inclusion. It’s not just that schools should offer arts courses for their many benefits; it’s that ALL STUDENTS should have ways to engage in their school’s arts programs. Because ALL students deserve those benefits. If you know a school that needs some support, encourage them to contact us. If you know a school that’s already modeling inclusive, equitable practices, submit them for our ArtsEd Spotlight! #accessiblearts #equitableeducation #artseducation #specialeducation #washingtonschools #deia #equityinaction
Henry Seipp, the theatre director at Shadle Park High School, has created a space for special education students to join their classmates on stage. This is another example of how integrating special education students with their general education peers is good for everyone. Get your tissues ready for this one.
