Do Women Matter?
I face situations every day where it seems that the public have more faith in a man’s opinion, than a talents, educated and experienced woman. Its sad but it’s true.
I have a lot of strong, intelligent woman in my life. I am a firm believer that woman don’t only deserve a seat at the table, but on most occasions they should sit at the head. Woman have incredible abilities and outweigh men in many ways.
As we celebrate Women’s Day in South Africa, let’s pause to acknowledge the incredible strength and resilience of women in our country. Women are the backbone of our communities, yet they bear the brunt of the world’s inequalities. Did you know that 70% of the 1.3 billion people living in poverty are women? And that two-thirds of the world’s illiterate population is female? These statistics aren’t just numbers—they represent millions of untold stories of struggle and perseverance.
In many parts of sub-Saharan Africa, women and girls walk up to 10 kilometers a day just to collect water. That’s 15 to 17 hours a week, time that could be spent pursuing education or income-generating activities. They are more likely to be malnourished, and in times of food shortages, they are often the first to go hungry.
This Women’s Day, let’s remember that true equality means more than just words. It means advocating for women’s rights to education, property, and inheritance. It means ensuring they have access to the resources and opportunities that can break the cycle of poverty. Women are not just survivors; they are leaders, innovators, and the key to a sustainable future.
Let’s celebrate the women who are driving change, and commit to creating a world where they don’t just survive—but thrive. #WomensDay #WomenMatter #EqualityForAll #SouthAfrica
