Berine & Bokwe Staff Learn How to Win Grants! Our Project Coordinator, Mr. Achillus Tanzenyuy, held a super workshop today! We learned how to get funding for our amazing projects that help the community. Here's what we covered: Talking to the Community: We learned how to listen to what people really need. This way, our projects can make a lasting difference! Writing Winning Grants: Mr. Tanzenyuy showed us how to turn those needs into winning proposals that funders love! Asking the Right Questions: We learned how to ask questions that get to the heart of the problem, so we can help in the best way possible. Thanks, Mr. Tanzenyuy! We're excited to use this knowledge to make a positive change!

Over the past two weeks, we’ve given an overview of our new mission, vision, and three strategic goals. As we embark on this journey with our 2025–2029 strategic plan, we’re guided by a set of powerful principles that will shape every decision, every initiative, and every step we take: ??Courage: We dream big, we take risks, we speak out, and we stand with others working to create positive change. ???Justice: We believe in the power of an engaged, informed, and connected community to achieve equity for all. ???Integrity: We are transparent, ethical, and accountable to the community, and we match what we say with what we do. ??Hope: We are unwavering in our optimism about what our community will achieve together. These principles are more than just words—they represent our commitment to driving positive, lasting change in Montgomery County. They serve as our compass, ensuring that everything we do is aligned with our mission to achieve healthy, equitable, and hopeful communities throughout Montgomery County. ?? "What is interesting to people is not proportionate to its objective importance." - Matthew Yglesias In our Global Priorities course at the University of Edinburgh's School of Economics, we delved into an insightful interview featuring journalist Matthew Yglesias and the CEO of GiveWell. This conversation explored the disparity between public interest and objective importance, shedding light on how society perceives issues. The interview, which focused on GiveWell's top charities and latest research, provided valuable insights into effectively addressing pressing global issues. Specifically, it examined the process of gathering evidence and data to determine the tractability of different charities or issues. The discussion emphasized the importance of asking critical questions before implementing campaigns or interventions, highlighting the need for thorough understanding and analysis. 1. What problem am I solving and how does it work? 2. What am I solving? 3. What do I know about the topic? This interview is a must-read/watch for anyone passionate about learning how effective change can be made practically. It was such a privilege to host a panel at the #CIOFFC this morning, exploring the ways in which we can create a culture of collective learning between academics and fundraisers. As expected, the perspectives shared by Haseeb Shabbir, Claire Routley and Dr Rita Kottasz were brilliant. But it was a delightful surprise to have such insightful contributions from the audience too. There was real energy around the potential for more academic-practitioner collaborations. For those not able to be there, here's the key takeaways: 1?? check out the Journal of Philanthropy and Marketing, especially the Dialogue series and Practice Papers 2?? explore higher education opportunities with the Chartered Institute of Fundraising or your local university (many now have research centres dedicated to philanthropy) 3?? look into Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) where HUGE grants are available for research partnerships between universities and non-profits that aim to create robust income streams. What's not to like?!

In case you missed the [“soon to be mandatory”] #CIOFFC session with colleagues Dr Rita Kottasz, Haseeb Shabbir, Catriona Brickel, and Claire Routley. They discussed the importance, opportunity and value of transfering academic research and knowledge into practice for a more evidence based, ‘fastworwarded’ approach. #KTP #evidencebasedfundraising #sharedvalue #impact Bayes Business School Rogare - The Fundraising Think Tank Journal of Philanthropy and Marketing University of Kent Kingston University University of Bath

ACF President & CEO Anna María Chávez recently wrote an opinion piece published in the Phoenix Business Journal. "Given Arizona’s current reality and future aspirations, it's clear we face significant challenges, but also tremendous opportunity. From educating our children, to training our workforce for the skills of tomorrow, to ensuring affordable housing for all and protecting our precious environment, we confront a set of issues unlike any generation that came before."
