Yesterday we continued learning about the 8 areas of sustainable design. ?? George delivered this month’s presentation which was about Sustainable Connectivity & Transport. ??♂? Transport operational carbon emissions account for approximately 25% of total UK emissions, which is the second highest after buildings. Designing to improve this, is important for the Architecture and construction industry. ?? Reducing carbon emissions associated with transport should consider reducing the need to travel in the first instance. The Sustainable Travel Hierarchy highlights this. We must promote improved digital and physical connectivity of places, which in turn will significantly reduce the need for travel and reduce the length of travel time. Sustainable sites with walkable connectivity to local facilities and good public transport links should be prioritised. ?? Our buildings must support future transport needs, including increased cycling and active travel, improving car sharing infrastructure, and more widespread use of electric and/or hydrogen vehicles. ?? This is something which Dame Sarah Storey is championing throughout Greater Manchester. ?? #transport #architecture #manchester
Thanks for the presentation George Berry, some great insights. ??
