Cybersecurity in our energy infrastructure is critical, especially as the number of cyberattacks continues to rise. The latest from Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) marks a significant step forward in bolstering our grid's defenses. On September 19, FERC issued two proposed rules aimed at enhancing cybersecurity standards for the U.S. bulk-power system. These proposals are important to be aware of. The first NOPR (Docket No. RM24-4-000) calls for new or modified critical infrastructure protection standards to address supply chain risks and safeguard our grid-related cybersecurity systems. The second (Docket No. RM24-7-000) introduces internal network security monitoring requirements, ensuring tighter controls both within and beyond the electronic security perimeter.
