Let’s have a conversation about job titles- do they matter to you? Or what matters is the responsibility that comes with it? For instance you can be responsible for the province and still be called HSE Officer, while someone with the very same job and responsibilities be called regional HSE Officer?

???? I have spoken with many candidates this week following on from the below post, so thought I would flip the food for thought, to hiring managers! The hiring process for a permanent position can take time. From advertising and sourcing candidates, to conducting interviews, and working notice periods, it will typically be a couple of months before your new employee starts (and that's without any hiccups along the way!). Whether the aim remains to bring on a permanent employee ASAP, or timings mean you want to delay the process, having an immediate, short term solution in place alleviates the time pressure of making a rushed permanent hire, and allows you to consider any changes that may be beneficial to the role. Permanent HSE employees, would you consider taking on a contract position? ????♀? Often when you have only ever worked in permanent positions, it is easy to forget about the other options available to you. Even if you are looking to stay in permanent positions longer term, contracting can be a great interim solution while you are looking and interviewing for permanent roles, due to the quick turnaround! Contracts vary in length, and usually need someone to start ASAP (or yesterday!), and as such most of our contracting candidates start in their new role within days of interviewing. This can be a great option if you find yourself unexpectedly out of work, or in need of an immediate start date. Some time ago l joined a construction project team as a site HSE officer and l faced a challenge that appeared insurmountable. The construction site had experienced a string of safety incidents, and morale among the workers was very low. l knew that something had to change, and l was determined to make a difference. I began by conducting thorough analysis of the site safety protocols and discovered that many procedures were outdated, and there was lack of communication between management and workers. I took action and with the support of my team, l implemented a comprehensive safety training program, updated policies, and procedures, and established an effective communication channel between workers and management. l implemented hazard identification and reporting procedures and introduced means of reporting hazard. within few months, the workers were actively engaged in maintaining a safe work environment and the number of incident significantly decreased. #HR #Oilandgas #Construction #Manufacturing #Safety

After letting go of an extremely poor-performing HSE Advisor on a Project several years ago, I spoke to the 'generalist' recruiter who provided this advisor...this was his response: “Oh yes, we’ve placed him in 3 different roles now and he didn’t cut it for any of them either.“ ?? ?? ??
