One of the common messages today from ourselves in the CTTC, our colleagues from across the industry including Dublin Bus, Bus éireann and the Go Ahead group is the vast number of opportunities that exist throughout the industry including drivers and mechanics. Apprenticeships offer excellent opportunities for young people interested in a rapidly evolving field of expertise that will be vital in helping our country to achieve our 2030 emissions targets. We also discussed the need for an equitable approach by government to fare reduction initiatives, the need for changes to VAT rules to support the transition towards more sustainable and accessible fleets and traffic management interventions to improve efficiency and reliability of services through more biased road share and better facilities for coach tourism and event travel in all major cities and towns.

Chair of The Board of Directors at CNIB and Director of Legal Services at the Calgary Police Service
After a series of many unfortunate events, I’m excited to say that we are making significant progress to address long standing issues that the sight loss community and I have faced when travelling by air. As I said when CNIB launched its new strategic plan, “no longer will we wait for change. Now, we demand it”. As many of you have seen, I have not been shy in sharing the egregious issues I have faced in airports, through airport security, and with airlines and rideshare and taxi companies. But thankfully, I think we are starting to turn a corner. I’m impressed by the commitment to collaboration that Canada’s air industry and regulators have shared over the past few weeks, as we have discussed the issues I have brought up, but more importantly, the systemic barriers that people who are blind, Deafblind or low vision face. While I’m encouraged by initial dialogue (with more details to be announced later) rest assured that CNIB and I will continue to keep their feet to the fire with the goal of creating a truly barrier-free Canada. If any other airlines, industry partners, or regulators who see this want to talk, we would be happy to connect. We are also meeting with a major rideshare company next month with the hope of achieving a similar amount of movement on that front as well. There will definitely be more to come on these issues. @Air Canada @CATSA @Greater Toronto Airport Authority #A11Y #Disability #AirTravel #Accessibility

Airports should be a financial boon for a city or region, but instead many controlling agencies scare away investors unwilling to accept negative ROI for the privilege of access. Hangar ownership on public airfields is a great example of why the government should stay out of revenue generation. That is not a government's purpose. Many airfields across the US have areas that are a blight on the landscape because of the threat by the local controlling agency of taking property without due compensation. The result is hangars that are seen as an expense instead of a stewardship and investment. Why would anyone spend more than they have to for property that runs the risk of forfeiture because of government overreach? The only good reasons to 'steal' private property from the owner is if they break the law, or cannot live by contractual covenants.
