If you want great insight, you have to follow Stefan Hankin and Trendency. Two key points: 1. Only 4 sitting Vice-Presidents were elected President and two of them were Founding Fathers. 2. If you're 58 or younger, this is only the second time in your life that you have not seen a Bush, Clinton or Biden as a presidential candidate.
48 hours in to the new presidential race and there has been some clear movement nationally as well as in some key swing states (although early in the states to draw full conclusions). Two big takeaways: 1) Harris is off to a good start 2) The vast majority of Trump supporters are not going anywhere. https://lnkd.in/g8bC3ppa

Suppose the Democrats want to win the presidential election. In that case, VP Harris must demonstrate that she can tackle tough decisions at home and abroad and, more importantly, reduce polarisation within her party and the American public. She must also persuade Americans that the US is ready for a female president despite the preference towards conservatism and traditions. I think she will carry on as much of the groundwork already established by Biden and his team in the WH, especially in foreign affairs and geopolitics, but also shape her presidency unique to her. She must also show that she can withstand a barrage of racial and misogynistic abuses from Trump, who will do everything to smear and undermine Harris as someone unqualified for the presidency. Meanwhile, the Democrats must unite and recognise Biden’s public services. And the decision to withdraw is in the country’s best interest. Biden can still positively influence the DEM and the WH under Harris, but he must enable Harris to fulfil her presidential duties on her terms. It is going to be an exhilarating time ahead. #geopolitics #presidentialelections

Dr Edwardsson, with all due respect to your expertise in the field, we should define the purpose of the “loyalty” before we assess its veracity and nobility. In my comment to Pedro Isreal on your post, I reply: “Pedro Isreal, the issue is not appointing loyalists alone. The issue is appointing loyalists that want to defend DEMOCRACY (democrats) VERSUS the issue of appointing loyalists that want to build and defend AUTOCRACY AND DICTATORSHIP (republicans). It’s that simple. Dems want democracy. Republicans want autocracy and dictatorship.” ?? Neither you nor Pedro should kid yourself or your audience about the nefarious nature of appointing Trump loyalists and their purpose vs leftist loyalist purpose. Their purposes are 180 degrees apart in every way… And every day, the Democracy of America suffers for it. Someday the right will realize that autocracy and dictatorships were better viewed as newspaper articles about foreign countries than their own backyard. ??
This is one of the worst politically biased articles I have ever read. The potential president-to-be wants the loyalty of the people working for him! It's 'Game of Thrones' behavior!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "Now, as he contemplates a second stint in the Oval Office, his fixation on fealty appears to be growing, and some people who have spent time close to the former president say they believe it will be the singular criterion for potential appointees if voters give him what he wants." https://lnkd.in/g_uejkD3 #mediabias #election2024 #trump

Former President Donald Trump emerged triumphant in the Nevada Republican caucuses, solidifying his position as a frontrunner in the party's primary race. However, the absence of a direct showdown between Trump and potential rival Nikki Haley underscored the complexities of the electoral process in the southwestern state. Trump's resounding win in the Nevada caucuses signals his enduring influence within the Republican Party, reaffirming his status as a dominant force in conservative politics. With his unapologetic brand of populism and fervent base of supporters, Trump's victory sets the stage for a contentious battle for the party's nomination in the upcoming presidential election. As Trump basks in the glow of victory, the road ahead is fraught with challenges and uncertainties. The looming specter of a divided GOP, exacerbated by internal divisions and ideological rifts, poses a formidable obstacle to Trump's ambitions of reclaiming the presidency. Moreover, the broader geopolitical landscape presents a myriad of complex challenges that demand astute leadership and strategic vision. 24 hours is an eternity in politics. And that was exactly what happened over the weekend. Just on Saturday, US media were reporting that incumbent President Joe Biden will fight tooth and nail to demonstrate why he is the Democrats' best chance of defeating the Trump train, that had gained strength as well as momentum after his fist-pumping heroics in the wake of the assassination attempt on his life. A day later, Mr Biden bowed out of the re-election bid and endorsed his Veep Kamala Harris instead. Tributes are now pouring in for Mr Biden and rightly so. He saw the gathering storm and knew his floundering re-election campaign was losing steam. His closest aides have also expressed their concerns about not only him losing the White House, but likely Congress too, if he continues to lead the Democrats, whose younger and more left-leaning voting base grew increasingly disenchanted and disillusioned with the party's leadership, even though Senator Bernie Sanders kept talking up Mr Biden. He heard and heeded the ground, and stood aside for the good of his party, his country. Even before Mr Trump's assassination attempt, I felt the writing was on the wall for Mr Biden, when the Democrats' mega donor cum fundraiser - Hollywood bigwig George Clooney - wrote an op-ed asking Mr Biden to step down. It was a most damning and incriminating article, as Mr Clooney wrote of his affection and admiration for Mr Biden, using past tense of who Mr Biden was, not is. It also brought to the fore, not just for the political insiders and elites about the insufficiency of Mr Biden's candidacy, but tore open the veil to the masses, how Mr Biden's health or condition had supposedly been deteriorating behind the scenes. And after the Republicans put on an impressive united front at their national convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin - a critical swing state - the Democrats are now trying to do likewise, by rallying behind their newly anointed and appointed leader, Kamala Harris. Interestingly, Ms Harris is yet to have been blessed by party elders like PUSA Barack Obama and ex-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, though that could be an act of deference to Mr Biden, to celebrate him for his sacrifice today, and deal with future challenges ahead, tomorrow. Whatever the case, purely from the confines of my narrow newsroom worldview, I want to thank Mr Biden for 4 solid, drama-free years of leadership during his term in office. He has had to oversee a host of craziness during the past 4 years, and he did so, out of a sense of duty and decency, without ever asking for much in return. That is something that is both timeless and ageless, for which all generations can learn from. https://lnkd.in/gX9G4E92

The Right Choice To Unite The Dems by Eugene Robinson President Biden did his part, and now Democrats must do theirs: Unite behind a new ticket headed by Vice President Harris and then defeat Donald Trump soundly in November. Quitting his bid for reelection was the right choice for his party and his nation. Biden’s endorsement of Harris to replace him is not the final word — he has no power to anoint her — but that, too, is the best and most promising way forward. The idea of an “open process” or a “contested convention” in which Harris competes against other contenders to win the nomination sounds like something Hollywood might script, but I don’t see how that happens in the real world. Convention delegates will have to vote, of course, and other names might be proposed. But I believe the odds of anyone else being the nominee are somewhere between astronomical and ain’t-gonna-happen. For one thing, all but a handful of those nearly 4,000 delegates are pledged to Biden — or were, until he dropped out. They enter this uncharted political wilderness as Biden people. The fact that Biden immediately gave Harris his full backing will surely be a North Star for many seeking guidance. I know that some Democrats believe there are other potential candidates who could do better against Trump: Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, for example, or Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, or Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear. But I disagree. None of the others being mentioned has fought and won a national campaign. None has been subjected to the X-Ray-level vetting that Harris has endured. And why would any of those rising stars even run? What would they gain by putting themselves out there now, not a month before the convention, in opposition to such power brokers as Bill and Hillary Clinton, who have already called for party unity behind Harris? They have promising futures to think about. Finally, look at the Democratic Party’s base — the voters who have to turn out in November if Democrats are to beat Trump, hold the Senate and win the House. Members of the Congressional Black Caucus have been among the most ardent advocates of Biden staying in the race. They have made it clear that if the president did withdraw, they and their constituents would have no patience with an effort by the party to “pass over” the first African American vice president in favor of some untested White governor. No Democrat can win the three “blue wall” swing states — Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania — without racking up huge vote margins in the Milwaukee, Detroit, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh metropolitan areas. If Black voters stay home on Election Day, Democrats lose. It is true that Democrats were given a chance to choose Harris in the 2020 cycle, and she didn’t even make it to the Iowa caucuses. But that was then. This year, she has been the Biden-Harris campaign’s most powerful and effective voice on such key issues as abortion and gun safety. ??Washington Post 2024

New Hampshire's presidential primary is today, and the race for the Republican presidential nomination appears all but over unless former United Nations Ambassador?Nikki Haley pulls off an upset victory over former president Donald Trump. What the GOP’s most loyal voters want, it seems, is pure, uncut Trumpism—with all the baggage and ideological divergence from traditional conservatism that entails. Between Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’s withdrawal and Haley’s having little apparent path forward barring a major upset, the race could well be effectively over by Wednesday, the party having passed up yet another opportunity to turn the page on a polarizing, multiply-indicted fabulist who lost the last election and has never won the popular vote. It is an outcome that distresses those loyal to the party of?Ronald Reagan?who hoped 2024 would be the party’s opening to step into the future—people like New Hampshire Gov.?Chris Sununu, currently serving his fourth and final term. He spent the last several weeks energetically promoting Haley’s candidacy and pronounced himself frustrated by Trump’s continued sway over the base. “I’d like to move forward with someone that believes in Republican values and knows how to actually get it done,” Sununu said in an interview between rounds of hugs and selfies with his devoted constituents. “Donald Trump?is not a conservative. He’s not a Republican. He’s co-opted the brand a little bit, and that’s why I’m trying to support Nikki, to bring it right back.” Yet Iowa Republicans on Jan. 15 went for Trump by a 30-point margin, and the latest New Hampshire polls have Trump ahead of Haley by double-digit margins. “The Republican Party we knew isn’t coming back,” the anti-Trump Republican Sarah Longwell wrote on X. “GOP voters don’t want it back. They don’t want limited government, free markets, and American leadership in the world. They want isolationism, an authoritarian crackpot president, and a big government that enforces their worldview.” The Reaganites thought they could wait Trump out, that the fever would finally break and they could move to reclaim what was rightfully theirs. They didn’t bargain for the fact that he had no intention of ceding the throne. It is a story that has unfolded over and over since Trump stepped onto the political stage in 2015, yet for traditional conservatives, it retains the power to sting. There is still an old Republican guard that privately wishes Trump would go away, said Joe Walsh, a former Illinois Republican congressman. But it’s getting smaller and smaller as people like him and former Rep.?Liz Cheney?are cast out and a new guard takes over in its stead. “The new ‘national conservatism’ is to use government to get what you want, to go after the libs and the media and your enemies,” Walsh said. “The free-market, traditional, Reagan conservatism, there’s no place for it in this party, or any other for that matter.”

Have just noticed today on CNBC, a more positive note, as many guests were BIDEN Admin, LEADERS, asked to participate and discuss investments, and sectors like, Energy and EV, and FED plans. Instead of critical comments, we are now just hearing some positive discussion. We hope, that including the support of UAW, we will see some actual positive news on this business network, instead of only REPUBLICAN CRITICS, SPREADING MISINFORMATION. America is growing and Biden's economic news is good and it is going to be stronger by NOV. The market is ahead of when the FED RATE CUTS HAPPEN DISCUSSION on this issue. There will cuts, but they will happen but be data driven. DO NOT FIGHT THE FED ON THIS ISSUE., when investing, just be patient and listen and be active.
KEY POINT: Trump won the primary, but doesn’t have enough broad GOP support to beat Biden. KEY EXCERPT: …more than 45% of Republican primary voters—those most fervent about the party—chose someone other than Trump. As David French pointed out in the New York Times today, Trump is running as a virtual incumbent, and any incumbent facing a challenger who can command 43% of the party faithful is in trouble. President Gerald Ford discovered this equation in 1976 when he faced Ronald Reagan’s insurgency; President George H. W. Bush discovered it in 1992 when he faced a similar challenge from right-wing commentator Patrick Buchanan. While both Ford and Bush went on to win the Republican nomination, they lost the general election.
