Law Enforcement professionals nationwide face unique stressors and challenges in their line of work, including exposure to traumatic events, high-pressure decision-making, and the cumulative effects of chronic stress, which can lead to increased risks of anxiety, depression, PTSD, substance misuse, and suicide. Specialized mental health training equips behavioral health professionals with the tools and knowledge to address the unique needs of officers more effectively. By understanding the cultural and operational context of law enforcement, clinicians can build trust with officers, tailor interventions to their experiences, and promote resilience and coping strategies. In collaboration with Dr. Stephanie Woodard, PsyD of Sierra Health Strategies, Polymath Solutions is excited to announce the launch our comprehensive Law Enforcement-Behavioral Health Training & Technical Assistance Program to provide behavioral health practitioners with the knowledge, skills, and ability to meet the unique behavioral health needs of public safety professionals. My new article for APEA's NP Insider Blog focuses on the career outlook for psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioners. Although the number of academic programs preparing new PMHNPs is increasing, more are needed. As Abby McNeil, DNP, APRN, PMHNP-BC told me, "The psychiatric provider shortage is having a direct impact on our communities. We need to provide a pipeline of educated PMHNPs to improve access to mental health care in underserved areas." Access the full article via the post below. #mentalhealth #pmhnp #nursepractitioners

Lived Experience Informed Care is the future. It's more than just a business play, it's a matter of ethics. When MHPs listen to the #livedexperiences and #firsthandknowledge of those they hope to help, not only do their horizons expand - but they offer us, patients and caregivers, hope for the future. How? Well, it's simple! When given a seat at the table, and by taking an active role in the care of ourselves and others like us, we become deeply invested in our progress and growth. We start to believe that if one person can live a better life, then so can we. To be represented in the #mentalhealth landscape is to be seen, heard and respected. It's a #movement that I'm so proud to be part of. My work as a Lived Experience Advocate and Peer Support Worker has gifted me a perspective that I hope to share with as many as I can. From working with peers in Tapestry Project support groups, to advising on projects by Schizophrenia Research Foundation (I), every opportunity has taught me something new. If you're interested in learning more about the lived experience paradigm, how to get involved, or have an idea you'd like to share - let's connect! https://lnkd.in/eKKBAgnv #healthcareconsulting #supportgroups #peersupportworker #advisoryboards #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthprofessionals

In my over a decade of experience as a Medical Social Worker, I’ve learned that empathy is not just an emotion; it’s a tool for transformation. Whether it’s advocating for a patient, bridging cultural gaps, or guiding families through difficult decisions, empathy is at the heart of what we do. I recall working with an older patient diagnosed with a chronic mental health condition. She often missed her appointments and resisted treatment, citing cultural beliefs about "spiritual causes" of illness. Instead of dismissing her views, I sat with her, listened without judgment, and helped her family understand her struggles. Together, we found a middle ground, combining her treatment plan with supportive cultural practices. Over time, her adherence improved, and she began to trust the medical team. That moment reaffirmed that healthcare isn’t just about treating illnesses—it’s about treating people. Let’s continue fostering empathy, not just as professionals but as humans. ?? How has empathy shaped your professional journey? Let’s exchange insights and learn from one another! #SocialWork #EmpathyInHealthcare #PatientAdvocacy #MedicalSocialWork
