https://lnkd.in/d77JK6ed This publication represents my debut on the chemistry research stage :) I am deeply grateful to my PI, Dr. Qiu Wang, my mentor Andrew Nguyen, and my colleague Sheng-Hao Huang, for their immense support for this project and my research journey in general. As a note to my fellow chemistry majors who are still in their undergraduate stage, I want to say that even though we may not be full-fledged independent researchers in chemistry who can plan and troubleshoot our reactions and drive our independent projects, doing research is a very impactful journey of growth and development. I see why pharmaceutical companies effectively require a Ph.D. level of chemistry training for medicinal chemists. I now understand more about chemistry research and methodology development than when I began in 2021. Still, my most significant lessons from being a part of the Wang lab are critical thinking skills and presentation and aesthetic skills. I have made many mistakes when it comes to presenting data in chemistry: poorly drawn figures, eye-sore layouts of chemical structures and tables, and the like. Chemistry research is filled with many beautiful structures and figures, which I have come to appreciate. It is one of the most incredible aspects of participating in chemistry research. Maybe I could've become an artist in another life. I hope this paper can be an exciting part of your week :) It definitely has been for me. I won't be engaging in basic sciences chemistry research for a while, but who knows, maybe post-medical school me might take it up again ??

Ms. Smruti Smita Sahoo, pursuing her doctoral research under my supervision at the National Institute of Technology Rourkela has brought laurels by winning the best oral presentation award in the recently concluded 5th International Conference on Materials Science and Manufacturing Engineering (MSME 2024) organized by the Hong Kong Society of Mechanical Engineers.
