As a career educator who grew up in Stockton, I saw missed opportunities for students to collaborate and connect across lines of difference. As I became an educator, I saw the desire and potential of connecting kids and experiences and feel like this creates the community and society I want to be a part of. Unbound Stockton is a community based school that sees the community as the classroom. We believe taking upper elementary age students to connect with the community in their curriculum and. Getting opportunities help students thrive and love each other and their communities. They may stay to be future long-term leaders. Unbound Stockton has an untraditional schedule where what students learn in the classroom Monday through Thursday, they apply to a community based experience. Every Friday we see our students working directly with community organizations and nonprofits to solve problems of practice. The nonprofits and organizations pitch to our students the solutions and research the students. Come Up With will then be presented back as ways to show their community participation and input to change and improve our community together. Monday through Thursday we focus on rich classroom experiences and on Friday this is when students create and change their community. At Unbound Stockton, we are a community, and that includes our students, our families, and our greater community as a whole. Unbound Stockton reflects our community. It reflects the diversity, reflects the desire to learn and come together to imagine future possibilities. Picture, picture, picture. Middle East Possibilities possibilities.
