?? What a victory for the Halifax Panthers Rugby League After a challenging stretch of defeats, our team ( & their lucky shorts ?? ) showed the true spirit of resilience and determination with their remarkable win against Dewsbury. This triumph is a testament to the power of perseverance and the importance of never giving up, even when the odds seem stacked against you. ???? The amount of stick directed at the players of late, the board, the coaching staff in fact everyone but the mascot, the lads turned out and showed up! Elcons Employment Law Consultants Limited are proud of you! lessons learned on the rugby field resonate deeply in the business world. Just as the Panthers faced setbacks and continued to push forward, businesses too must navigate through tough times with unwavering commitment and focus. ?? When challenges arise: Stay Persistent: Like the Panthers, don't let temporary defeats define your journey. Adapt and Overcome: Use each setback as a learning opportunity to refine your strategies. Teamwork is Key: Success is built on collaboration and mutual support. Congratulations to the Halifax Panthers for their inspiring win! Let's all take a leaf from their book and tackle our own challenges with the same grit and determination. Remember, success is not just about winning—it's about the relentless pursuit of excellence. ?? #HalifaxPanthers #RugbyLeague #NeverGiveUp #BusinessLessons #ElconsEmploymentLaw #Resilience #Teamwork #Success

Scouting is evolving! I've been a Scoutmaster for a BSA (aka Scouting America) for the past 4 years and before that, various positions in Cub Scouts. Our Troop is too small to support a separate girls Troop per the current BSA guidelines. The Boy Scouts of America is piloting a combined troop model this fall, allowing boys and girls to share the same Scout troop. This is a big change, and I'm curious to hear your thoughts. Would you support a combined troop model for Scouts BSA? What potential benefits or challenges do you see? Share your insights in the comments below! #Scouting #BSA #combinedtroop #boysandgirls #leadershipdevelopment https://lnkd.in/dU6tw7nD

An awesome discussion in our office yesterday with a couple of Aussie basketball legends, with Brad Newley doing a great job interviewing Jack White. I really enjoyed the conversation and thought I'd share some of my personal takeaways: Overcoming adversity – Jack shared how he’d suffered a torn Achilles in his first season in the NBL. Jack spoke of the disappointment of having such a significant injury at the very start of his professional career, as well as his concern for the risk of losing some of the athleticism that makes him a special player. He endured and overcame by controlling what he could and working tirelessly on his recovery. Focus and dedication saw him come back in 9 months and you get the sense he’s stronger for overcoming the challenge. Whether we like it or not, we will all face forms of adversity in our lives. How we face up to that adversity, the actions we take, informs our chances to make the best of any situation and keep moving forward, ultimately growing from the experience. Learning from Mentors – Jack spoke of his experience with Coach K at Duke, Dean Vickerman’s leadership as well as learning from the accomplished veteran players he’d always looked up to from Melbourne, like Matthew Dellavedova, Chris Goulding and Brad Newley. By learning from others Jack shared that he expects that he has and will continue to make the most of his playing career. My observation is that those (in sport or business) that have the type of personality to want to learn from others, often later become great teachers and supporters of others down the track. This type of role model cycling is critical to foster in any organisation that wants to prosper over the long term. Keeping a balanced perspective – Sports (and business) can have highs and lows. With Melbourne United most recently moving from a big loss against the Breakers at the start of November, to then delivering 2 big wins over the last few days, resulting in moving to the top of the NBL ladder. Jack spoke to staying balanced, focusing on the process and avoiding getting too high or low after a good or less good game. Jack mentioned the belief and culture that has been instilled within the United team that they can bounce back if they put the work in, and have a track record of doing so. I thought this was a really interesting point, as belief and culture often becomes intertwined as long as it informs constructive action. Overall a great experience and we're very grateful that Jack and Brad gave us their time. Go United!
A big thank you to our special guests, Melbourne United basketball player Jack White and Commercial Executive Brad Newley, for speaking with our team. During the Q&A session, Jack shared valuable insights into his success on the court, emphasising the importance of controlling the controllables, maintaining consistency through the highs and lows of sport, and surrounding himself with great people. Our team gained a lot from this session, and we look forward to watching Jack’s career flourish as Melbourne United Basketball Club strives for another successful season. Go United! #MelbourneUnited #ENGIE?

The Sport Performance Summit, Melbourne - some key insights learnt from: - Melbourne Storm: the key mindset of an S&C coach is to think like a Head Coach - NZ All Blacks: The Rugby Way - Be Welcoming; Be Our Best; Be Passionate: Play Fair - San Antonio Spurs: Basketball Values centred around Character (values based), Selfless (culture focus) & “Pound the Rock” (championship driven) - Brisbane Lions: Where are we on the spectrum of Physical, Technical, Tactical and Psychological programming and development, and celebrate the small wins - Jen Overbeck (Melbourne Business School): We need to try to elicit change rather than forcing change, and influencing credibility must be built well before you need

You don't know what you'll find around the corner. We travelled up to Manchester for the Super League Grand Final over the weekend. Whilst on a lunch time stroll we spotted Willie Peters, boss of one of the finalists, Hull KR. Looking a bit further just over his shoulder I saw that he's with a few current and recent past greats of the game (too many to name). This included the biggest name in the sport at the moment, 4 time NRL championship winner Nathan Cleary. I'm not one to idolise sports personalities, but what Willie and Nathan have done in their respective careers over the last few years has been outstanding. They've both managed to build on what was already there through work rate, high standards, and ingenuity. I also think that they see things from a different perspective to others in their field. This is something that at times has helped me and others I've worked with. Whether it's moving to Australia or Europe to try something new, or staying with your current employer and pushing for a new path. As well as doing the basics of working hard and maintaining high standards, you may benefit from taking a step back and asking if there is another way to look at a problem or your career path. Often there is no need to change what you're doing. But at times you will benefit greatly by asking what may be around the corner if a new path is taken. #uptherobins #superleague #movetoaustralia

Clyde Martin was a notable figure in the history of golf, particularly during a time when racial segregation was prevalent. In 1939, Clyde Martin achieved a groundbreaking milestone by being named the head professional at the segregated Langston Golf Course in Washington, D.C. At that time, Langston Golf Course served as a designated facility for African-American golfers due to the segregation policies of the era. Despite the challenges of racial segregation, Clyde Martin excelled in his role as head professional, showcasing his skills and expertise in the sport. His appointment at Langston Golf Course was a significant achievement, as it provided opportunities for African-American golfers to access quality instruction and facilities. Troon and its affiliates currently manages the Langston Golf Course, a National Links Trust facility. Established as a designated facility for African-American golfers, Langston became a symbol of progress and equality in the world of golf. It provided a platform for individuals to come together, share their passion for the sport, and contribute to the rich tapestry of the golfing community in the nation's capital. Langston Golf Course's commitment to openness and inclusivity made it a unique and vital institution. It not only offered a place for golf enthusiasts to hone their skills but also became a hub for community engagement and camaraderie. The course's history reflects a resilience against racial barriers, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose among its diverse patrons. My Football Adventures: A “Self-Motivation” story. Through self-motivation, relentless practice, and studying the game's greats, the intention of playing not just for fun but in a team began to seem achievable when I joined up to play in this Football Match. With encouraging words, leading by example, and always pushing others to believe in themselves as much as they did, the team's atmosphere transformed. We fostered a belief that together, we could rise above our ranks, play better, and win. My moment of glory wasn’t far behind. In this crucial match, with the team's hopes hanging by a thread. One goal came, a slick maneuver past the defense, a shot fired into the net. Then another, a testament to determination, fighting through fatigue and pressure. And then, miraculously, a third – a hat-trick of goals that seemed to defy belief. It was Unbelievably Magical. As the final whistle blew, victory was ours, but it was more than just a win; it was a testament to what belief, motivation, and teamwork could achieve. The team, once underdogs, had been transformed into champions, with me, not just a player, but a leader who had shown that the greatest victories often start with a single step of self-motivation.
