Lithuanian Army's Combat Drones ___________________ The Lithuanian army has taken delivery of their initial shipment of combat drones produced by Granta Autonomy, a renowned domestic technology firm. Drones have become an essential tool for military operations. Ukraine has employed 152 mm "Kvitnyk" laser-guided artillery shells, which are directed toward their targets by lasers mounted on drones. One huge advantage drones provide as demonstrated in Ukraine is "democratizing" precision firepower. Many army units on both sides rely on crowdfunding to sustain their operations. While they may need government-supplied ammunition, they can use crowdfunding to purchase drone delivery platforms, which is not feasible with more advanced munitions. In the race to be the first to fly from Sydney to London in just a couple of hours, Australia might be the winner. But it’s unlikely to happen for a while yet, according to Dr Michael Smart, co-founder and chief technology officer of Sydney-based Hypersonix Launch Systems. His company is taking baby steps towards that goal, starting with a contract from the Pentagon’s Defense Innovation Unit for the HYCAT, or Hypersonic High-Cadence Airborne Testing, program to simply test lots of hypersonic sensors and navigation systems – and do so quickly. Hypersonic speeds are greater than Mach 5. The first #epiphany I had from #XPO24: The Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) is responsible for much of America’s #drone #industry the last 5 years. (Yes, this is regionally specific, so my dear friend Philip doesn’t correct me). DIU has been responsible for some of the most impactful programs (and in turn) products that have shaped capabilities for the #warfighter: - #BlueUAS - #SROC But did you know they funded the development of: - ModalAI’s #VOXL - Auterion Government Solutions - Doodle Labs #Helix - the #C2 used by the Skydio #X10 (which was actually meant to be shared with the rest of the industry, WTF guys?!) The #NDAA24 increases their funding tremendously, and with that hopefully scope. I’m bullish Doug Beck can make an impactful difference and confident he realizes the entire #suas industry tech stack piggybacks off of #cellphones.
