In honor of LGBTQ history and global diversity month, we’re celebrating long-time client and friend,?Matthew Phillips, MBA, MA, and the Car Pros Automotive Group. Earlier this year, the Puget Sound Business Journal awarded Car Pros the first place award for?largest LGBTQ+-owned companies in Seattle. “Phillips, as one of the few openly LGBTQ+ dealers in the U.S., has ‘empowered people from under-represented groups to succeed in a workplace where respect, equity and inclusivity are pillars of the company’s culture.’” a Car Pros representative recently said in a news release. The award is one of many celebrating Car Pros and Phillip’s commitment to diversity and excellence. https://lnkd.in/gJ_eJCvK #LGBTQhistorymonth #globaldiversitymonth

We’ve seen the news that Toyota and Ford have scaled down #DEI. But did you know that: ??LGBTQ+ people have spent around $103 billion on vehicles since 2020. ??Over one-third of new vehicles registered since 2020 were purchased by LGBTQ+, Black, Asian, or Latine Americans — that’s more than 19.3 million vehicles. So what, you say? ??With 80% of LGBTQ+ adults willing to boycott brands that roll back DEI efforts, brands like Ford and Toyota stand to lose up to $2.4 billion and $2.5 billion respectively in sales. ??That’s a huge red flag to big-name brands thinking about backtracking on DEI. Today, the Human Rights Campaign Foundation released data on just this topic. Read about it here: https://lnkd.in/eX5kTqRU

To celebrate Pride Month, we asked John Curtis, our Senior Vice President - Global Offerings & North America Direct Leasing Sales Director, what this month means to him: “Happy Pride month! LGBTQ+ Pride IS action. As with any innovation – we at Xerox have pride in our progress and recognize the real business value-add of inclusion. Business studies prove that individuals and businesses thrive when we actively support our LGBTQ+ and diverse colleagues, clients and neighbors. However, Pride month cannot just be celebrating the history of our past, but in ensuring measurable transformation that drives continuous progress. And superheroes need sidekicks! We need to be allies for each other, to unleash the best in our culture and teams. As I celebrate 40 years with Xerox, coinciding with Pride month, I can see the hundreds of actions and champions who contributed to our families, our careers and our communities. We must harness those experiences to keep our commitment and momentum driving forward: not just for Pride month – but each day, each decision, each opportunity to advocate for equity and true belonging.” #Xerox #Pride

As Pride Month comes to a close this weekend, we’ve seen many hospitality brands this month draping their logos in rainbow colours… But what goes on behind a business’ closed doors is just as - if not more - important as any public declarations of support. So, what does an LGBTQ+ inclusive work culture look like? Here’s what to aim for (and what to avoid). Aim for: - Visibility and representation - Ongoing education - Safe spaces (including formal & informal structures) - Inclusive language - Responsive policies Avoid: - Tokenism - Assumptions and stereotypes - Ignoring intersectionality It goes without saying that creating an inclusive work culture is a continuous journey lasting well beyond Pride Month.
