Understanding Your Business's True Worth: A Guide to Valuation This article by Paul Dodgshon provides valuable insights into business valuation, a critical step for strategic decisions like exiting, merging, or growing my company. The article dismantles the misconception of a universal valuation formula, highlighting the importance of a holistic approach. This considers my company's historical performance, current health, and future potential, going beyond financials to account for market conditions, risks, and intellectual property. Dodgshon explores three key valuation approaches: Income-Based: This method focuses on cash flow generation, using metrics like EBITDA and Discounted Cash Flow analysis. Market-Focused: This approach compares my company to similar businesses based on revenue, profit, or assets for a fair market value. Asset-Focused: This method values the business based on its tangible assets and liabilities. The article concludes by emphasizing the importance of seeking professional guidance for an accurate valuation, especially for selling a business. A nuanced approach that considers all relevant factors is crucial to maximizing my company's value. #BusinessValuation, #StrategicPlanning, #CompanyGrowth https://lnkd.in/d2WPUn-f

Two critical decisions a CEO needs to make continuously to drive his business growth are: 1) In which projects do I invest? and 2) How do I finance those projects? These two decisions can make or break a company. As a CEO, it is essential that you are involved in the decisions regarding capital allocation. You can not leave it to others; you must get into the details. In a large corporation, you will not be able to control all the capital spending, but any project that could potentially change the trajectory of the company in the long term—well, there, you need to get into the details. One of the key elements of a great CEO is the ability to allocate capital in a way that increases the company’s long-term prospects and value. Great CEOs seem to have a special ability to allocate capital successfully. The interplay between capital allocation and the sources of finance is critical when making these decisions. The availability and the cost of funds directly influence the ability to invest so that returns are optimised. Successful investments will enhance your ability to secure future funds and generate cash flows, which, when managed well, will reduce your dependency on external funds. Cash flow from operations needs to be managed well. This can ensure a company has the reserves to seize opportunities and meet its financial obligations. Manage your cash well, build reserves, be involved in the details of large projects, and balance the risks, finance costs, and returns with a view to the long term. #business #capitalspend https://lnkd.in/gqwDuUVE
