Next week between the 13th and 17th May, the 'No Falls Foundation' will be launching their first ever, 'No Falls Week' campaign, this event will promote 'Safe Working at Height'. Falls from height remains one of the main cause of fatalities, in 2022/2023, 40 no. colleagues were killed in this way in Great Britain, that was 30% of all workplace deaths! Working at height MUST be appropriately planned and colleagues Must be given proper training, information, and instructions to complete their task safely. Remember, you do not need to leave the ground to be at height, working next to an excavation is 'working at height'. However, walking up and down a staircase at work is not working at height. There is also the myth that the HSE has banned ladders, that is incorrect. When using a ladder at work, it must be a 'Professional' ladder (EN131). You must always have three points of contact at all times. When you need to have both hands free for a brief period to do a small task using a ladder, you still need to maintain three points of contact at the working position.?This is not just two feet and one hand; it can be two feet and your torso. However, your belly button must be position between the stiles (vertical sides) so the user is not off balance or forcing the ladder to slide out from the even weight distribution. Users must ensure a handhold is available to steady themselves when required. If the ladder is secured appropriately, you could even put one leg through the rungs and drop your rear leg/foot down two rungs giving yourself a firm positioning. A method I used a lot when I was a Steeplejack! Ladders should only be used when other means of access have been considered and ruled out, weighing the risk against the sacrifice needed to further reduce it (ALARP). You can sign up to 'No Falls Week' and get involved here: https://nofallsweek.org #nofallsweek #fallprevention #ALARP #riskmitigation #sheqman

April 28th we unite in solidarity to commemorate the National Day of Mourning. This is a day dedicated to remembering and honoring workers who have lost their lives, suffered injuries, or experienced illness due to workplace incidents. This is also a day to collectively renew our commitment to improving health and safety in the workplace and to preventing further injuries, illnesses and fatalities. As we reflect on the significance of this day, we are reminded of the profound impact that loss and tragedy has on our lives, workplaces and communities. We remember the lives cut short, the dreams left unfulfilled, and the families forever changed. Behind each statistic, each story, is a human life, a family shattered, and a community affected. Every life lost is a tragedy that could have been prevented, and it is our collective responsibility to prevent future tragedies. As we pause to honour those affected, let us recommit ourselves to creating a safer, healthier work environment for all. Let us pledge to continue to cultivate a culture of safety, where every individual feels valued, protected, and empowered to put safety first. Together, we can prevent workplace tragedies and ensure that everyone returns home safely at the end of every day. Safety is for you, for me, for us. #dayofmourning #dayofmourning2024 #nationaldayofmourning #healthandsafety #construction #together #safety

Today is the first day of No Falls Week and at RS Industrial Services It's not just a campaign, it's a commitment to safety that runs through the heart of our operations. Did you know that 40 precious lives were lost due to falls from height between 2022-2023. What's more alarming is that these incidents accounted for a staggering 30% of all workplace fatalities during that period according to RIDDOR accident statistics from 2023. This is a wake-up call for all of us. Safety isn't just a box to check; it's a responsibility we owe to our employees, our families, and our community. As we embark on this journey towards zero falls, let's keep safety at the forefront of everything we do. Together, we can make a difference and ensure that every worker returns home safely to their loved ones. #NoFallsWeek #SafetyFirst ??♂???♀?
