Hurricane Milton: Office Closure and Client Support Information As Hurricane Milton approaches, we want to assure you that Samlut & Company is here to support you and your business through this challenging time. Office Closure Information: In response to the expected impact of Hurricane Milton, our Coral Gables office will close from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday, October 10th. We plan to reopen on Friday, October 11th, provided it is safe to do so. During the closure, our team will be working remotely to continue serving you. This designation does not automatically grant an IRS extension of the October 15 deadline. This determination could occur after the October 15th tax filing deadline, so we recommend proceeding with the expectation that the deadline remains unchanged. The State of Louisiana has received a Major Disaster Declaration for Hurricane Francine (FEMA-4817-DR), covering the incident period from September 9-12, 2024. This declaration includes Public Assistance for Category A (Debris Removal) and Category B (Emergency Protective Measures) with 75% federal funding available. Hurricane Beryl Disaster Individual Assistance from FEMA approved ? Those affected by Beryl can start applying for federal aid this weekend, A day after the state requested that the federal government expand Hurricane Beryl disaster assistance to include individual assistance, President Joe Biden approved the request for 15 Texas counties. That list includes the counties in the i45NOW coverage area: Galveston County, Harris County, and Brazoria County. Individual assistance covers: Financial: Lodging Expense Reimbursement, Rental, Repair, and Replacement Assistance OTHER NEEDS ASSISTANCE: Funeral, Medical, Dental, Childcare, Moving and Storage, Displacement, Serious Needs, Clean and Sanitize, Personal Property, Transportation, Group Flood Insurance Policy, and Miscellaneous Items FROM THE SBA: Real Property (owners) loans up to $500,000, Personal Property (owners and renters) loans up to $100,000. The American Red Cross sent hundreds of disaster workers and truckloads of relief supplies to southeast Texas after Hurricane Beryl left millions of people without power while deadly heat and humidity enveloped the region. This massive power outage created an urgent need for food and water in many communities across the area. Prior to the hurricane season, National Disaster Organisations retrofit plans, policies, and procedures to fortify disaster preparedness to ensure community and national resilience, in case of an emergency. Hurricane Beryl, which impacted Jamaica as a Category 4 hurricane, tested these mechanisms. The event highlighted that through proper planning, great coordination, and effective communication between ministries, agencies, and departments, we can lessen the impact and recover quickly. Even though the damages were widespread, especially among the southern parishes in Jamaica, it could have been much worse. As we now commence the early recovery phase, ensure you play your part by being knowledgeable about disasters. Congressman Matt Gaetz wants DHS Secretary Mayorkas to provide some answers on FEMA’s non-response to Hurricane Helene. ***** “As reported and further confirmed by my office, hundreds, if not thousands of service members were deployed by the Department of Defense to North Carolina and have sat idle, waiting for FEMA,” Gaetz wrote. “We have confirmed FEMA?employees deployed, on the clock, awaiting orders in hotels. FEMA pre-disaster aid was withheld, exacerbating the emergency,” he added. ***** https://lnkd.in/g4BE-KRM FEMA exists to provide assistance in natural disasters such as Hurricane Helene. It should not be spending one dime on anything but disaster relief. What are we to conclude when FEMA itself acknowledges spending as much as $1 billion on housing illegal aliens when DHS Mayorkas then says FEMA is broke and can’t assist the people of Georgia and North Carolina? How are we to believe FEMA’s expenditures have been a good use of the public fisc? Why is FEMA determined to be yet another problem for people who already have more problems to handle than they need?

Insight in Western North Carolina: To friends and well-wishers, many have reached out to ask how Insight is doing in Western North Carolina and if they can help. We want to share that all Insight staff are safe. Many have been displaced from their homes and the level of destruction is significant. We have been able to reach most of our clients including those who have been displaced, but communication in the affected area is making it difficult to reach all. Although some of our offices in the area remain closed for now, we are conducting telemedicine visits from other offices whenever possible. Our buildings have experienced some minor flooding and damage, notably trees down at main treatment site in Asheville. We have fared much better, however, than others in the area. The situation is very fluid as services come back on-line but we hope to open all offices soon. The destruction is very real, and the recovery will take months if not longer.
