?? series: We spoke with industry recruiters during the LSU Career Expo to find out why they enjoy recruiting Tigers to work for them. Up first is Chelsea Bourdon, 2014 LSU grad and current process engineer at Marathon Petroleum Corporation.

Many organizations throughout the region depend on the generosity of our company to ensure they can serve and help those with the greatest needs. In 2024, we established several new partnerships with local organizations, a significant step that demonstrates our solidarity with those who are providing equitable opportunities to students. This year, our ERGs collaborated to attend career fairs, host professional clothes clothing drive, and provide professional development training to future builders. Engaging with students through workforce development (WFD) has been central to community engagement to grow and diversify the industry pipeline by supporting the economic development of historically underrepresented community members by introducing career opportunities in construction. Currently, the workforce shortage is the most acute challenge facing the construction industry. There are 450,000 unfilled construction jobs in the US. Since 2020, 3.2M construction professionals have left the industry. At Turner, we are committed to addressing this issue through our intentional and consistent efforts in Workforce Development. We aim to build our workforce from the trades to supervision to operations by providing education and training to candidates from the markets we serve, particularly candidates from underrepresented demographics.

The Lazard New Visions Academy, a partnership with New Visions for Public Schools, is a signature initiative of the Lazard Foundation that provides New York City public high school students with skills, experiences, and relationships that will set them on a path toward professional success. Over the course of the five-week program, colleagues from across the firm participated in career panels, professional development sessions, resume workshops, mock interviews, and networking activities—all culminating in the students’ final capstone projects. Gender diversity in construction fosters innovation, improves decision-making, and enhances team dynamics by introducing varied perspectives and skills. It helps companies better reflect client needs, attract top talent, and boost morale, driving long-term success and competitiveness in the industry. We must continue engaging with the next generation to showcase the modern construction industry and challenge the perception when it comes to gender stereotypes. Well done Jasmine Tubridy-Thomas!

MGL Group partners with Lord Lawson of Beamish Academy to support their careers programme. Through various initiatives, we aim to provide students with valuable insights into the construction industry and prepare them for their future careers. In mock interview sessions, members of Team MGL help students prepare for work, college, or university through realistic interview experiences. Recently, we engaged with 220 students. Additionally, we participate in career events to showcase the diverse opportunities available in the construction industry and empower students to make informed career decisions. We recently attended a careers event. We believe in nurturing future talent and contributing to the development of our community. 2024 YEAR IN REVIEW: In 2024, WisDOT expanded efforts to recruit the next generation of engineers, law enforcement officers and other staff to carry out programs to improve Wisconsin’s multimodal transportation system. WisDOT’s Office of Workforce Development is making strides to find new ways to support and engage WisDOT’s workforce. The Wisconsin State Patrol launched its first lateral hiring process to recruit trained law enforcement officers who are now serving communities across the state. Staff across WisDOT divisions participated in various career fairs and community events to recruit the next generation of transportation workers. At International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) event, teen girls are urged to consider union trades More than 400 high school girls visited the IBEW Local 103 campus in Dorchester for the Massachusetts Girls in Trades (MA GIT) Eastern Conference and Career Fair to learn about professions in construction trades unions.? MA GIT, founded in 2015, encourages women and girls to pursue high-paying, highly-skilled jobs in the building industry.??Throughout the morning, the students heard from strong, female role models, including the first female president of the Massachusetts AFL-CIO, Chrissy Lynch.
