Happy 105th birthday to the Sasaki Foundation's namesake, Hideo! Hideo was a Japanese American landscape architect who came of age during WWII. He became internationally renowned for his teaching, critical abilities, and multidisciplinary approach to design. As both an educator and a practitioner, Hideo was a leading figure in the modern design movement in mid-twentieth century America. Today the Sasaki Foundation carries forward Hideo's legacy by sponsoring community-based design projects in our Boston region, creating space for dialogues that advance advocacy for social justice and resilience, and providing design education opportunities to youth. Want to learn more? Hideo Sasaki: A Legacy of Collaborative Design by Richard Galehouse is launching in late 2024. Dick is donating all proceeds to support the Hideo Sasaki Foundation's mission of equity in design. Preorder your copy today: https://lnkd.in/euaQDFNr
I had the Privilege to meet him at one of the Sasaki Lectures at the U of I in the 1980's.
A Coke and a smile. I LOVE that!
