Why I Quit Full-Time Roles The job market is a nightmare right now. Many tech companies are struggling to find Go-To-Market (GTM) fit, switching to new motions, and leaving teams in chaos. Here’s what I’m seeing: ???? Colleagues fired while on parental leave. ???? Talented applicants ghosted, left without feedback. ???? Hardworking professionals burning out and quitting full-time roles altogether. Instead, more and more are turning to fractional or interim roles—and I’m one of them. Why? Because the current system is broken. An investor recently said to me: “This is happening, because founders suck.” But I’m not sure it’s that simple. The problem runs deeper. It’s about how we evaluate and execute Go-To-Market. What needs to change in GTM thinking? 1?? GTM is a machine. It’s not something you “build” by throwing money at isolated teams like sales or marketing. There are different components that determine success: ? Product ? Positioning ? Pricing ? Customer satisfaction ? GTM strategy ? Team 2?? You can’t measure GTM success in silos. Think of GTM as a restaurant kitchen. The marketing team isn’t just plating the food—they’re setting the menu, testing new recipes, and determining how much to charge. Judging them solely on how much and how fast they can prep the ingredients ignores their broader impact on the entire operation. 3?? People & Processes GTM isn’t just strategy—it’s the execution of connected processes by skilled people. Like a team building a car: one team installs the engine, another the tires, another the doors. Evaluating any team in isolation, or by one-size-fits-all metrics, guarantees dysfunction. If GTM is going to work in 2025, companies need to rethink how they approach strategy, team dynamics, and leadership. It’s not just about hitting targets. It’s about creating alignment across every part of the business. #B2B #GTM

I'm in the process of opening a couple of fun new roles on my team at Edelman (??). It got me thinking about how you make the hiring process transparent to and inclusive of your existing team, especially if that team is pulling extra weight in the interim. Welcoming new people should be exciting and enjoyable for everyone -- not just the new hires. And it's a teachable moment! Your junior team should understand how hiring processes work, how they impact the business, and what you're doing behind the scenes to make it happen. Here are three things I'm doing in this process to make sure nobody on the team feels out of the loop. They take a little extra time, and they may be unconventional, but they're worth it. ?? I'm asking the rest of our team, at *every* level (read that again), to review the JD for the roles. The reality is that they'll be working even more closely with our new hires than I will be, and the new team members will be taking things off their plate. Nobody knows the job better than the people that are picking up the extra work. ? I've shared the outline of the roles and responsibilities, portfolio assignment percentages, and ideal org chart with every member of the team to confirm they're aligned on their R&Rs as well as those of their new colleagues. That gives them a chance to raise their hand for something new or to take on more/less. ?? I've communicated transparently to the team about where we are in the process, what I'm doing that they aren't seeing, and how they'll be engaged when we reach each milestone of the process. This happens in real-time. I don't wait for our next team call; I drop announcements into our Teams chat and welcome folks to reach out for 1:1 time to discuss questions or concerns. #hiring #culture #transparency #recruiting #newroles #inclusivity #education #team #engagement #globalhealthjobs

Politics are a part of Med Device career progression. When I first got in, the mere thought made me wanna ?? Here's the right way to "Politic"....?? At quick glance, being "political" to advance your career just gives bad vibes. It feels slimy and sleezy. It feels self serving. You know the feeling when someone is reaching out and asking for something... They'll only reach out when they need something from you. They never make it. Here's the right way to do it. Help as many people in your organization that you can. Make sure you reach out to the rookies. Bonus points if you reach out to someone 2 time zones away. Help the people that, on paper, can't help you. Do that for a SOLID 3-5 years. What happens is those folks begin to love on you and talk about you when you're nowhere in sight. When you're on the other side of the country. Your relationships grow. All you've been doing is helping people, for free. Your reputation grows. Your sphere of influence grows. You'll be putting yourself in situations where you may be doing the job you aspire to have, before you even get there. People leader. or.... Leading without authority. Presidents, VPs, GMs, Directors, Managers... They'll all know who you are. It will make sense to everyone that it's your time to take more responsibility. It's an undefeated formula, where as the traditional approach is doomed. The end result may be a pay increase... Back end stock and 401K advantages... But none of those things will compare to the gratitude that will inevitably come your way if you play "Politics" the right way. Promise. ?? 'Hi Tom, just checking to see what you're up to?' It's a question I've been asked over the summer months (and thanks to all of you that took the time to ask - it meant a lot to me) ? The answer is 'not much, but a lot'. My role was made redundant in June, and since the job market for marketing leaders was so slow (another story) I gave myself a mini-sabbatical. 1?? To spend more time with my son, and help him through his GCSEs. 2?? To spend more time working on renovating our family home. 3?? To not burn myself out mentally searching for roles that weren't there. I'm now back, and available for businesses wanting to transform their marketing through scalable frameworks, improved ways of working and more collaborative environments. ?? Grateful for New Beginnings This Thanksgiving ?? I find myself reflecting on what I’m truly grateful for this year—and the excitement that comes with new opportunities. I’ve always said I could easily put my recruiter hat back on if I found an organization worthy of my passion. Recruitment, to me, is more than just matching people to jobs—it’s about authenticity and trust. It's like sales: you must genuinely believe in both the candidate and the company you're representing. For me, that’s non-negotiable. When I transitioned to corporate recruiting, I knew I had to find a company where I could stay true to my direct, transparent nature. I don’t believe in sugar-coating things, and I’ve always been committed to building honest, straightforward relationships with the people I work with. That’s why, when I decided to return to talent acquisition for just one organization, I knew it was essential to find a company that aligned with my values and vision. After my first month with INCOG BioPharma Services, I can honestly say I’ve found my *place*—a company where innovation, creativity, and change are not just welcomed, but encouraged. It’s a company I’m proud to represent, and it’s easy to be authentic about what we’re building here because I believe in it!
