Are you a disability advocate with intersectional identities who are underrepresented in data? Would you like to collect data about your community but are unsure of where to start? As a part of the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data Data Values Advocate Program, I'm organising a 2-hour workshop to support data skills for disability advocates, especially people with intersectional identities who are underrepresented in data and intend to use the acquired knowledge to collect data in their communities. Advocates with disabilities need to not only be present in #DisabilityData, we need to lead it! See more and register in: https://lnkd.in/e_p7HpdP

We often get asked how to approach someone you think might be neurodivergent, more specifically the question is usually along the lines of "how do I tell this person I think they might have/be [x]?" People worry that implying someone is neurodivergent in some way may be offensive or might cause upset. And if we're being honest, sometimes it can. We live in a world where many conditions are poorly understood and stigmatised. One where ableism is rife. So how do you ask if someone is neurodivergent? Well, in most cases, you don't actually need to. ?? More often than not, what we are trying to do is to help an individual, to provide support or to work through issues at work. You do not need a diagnosis to do that. You can use neurodivergence and an understanding of it as a lens for your interaction, and to perhaps suggest things that might be helpful. For example: "I've noticed you seem to struggle with when I give you instructions verbally and can sometimes miss steps. Would it be helpful if I followed up in writing or is there another way that would work best for you?" "You are really great at getting tasks done if there's a deadline, especially if it's a tight one, but sometimes seem to struggle getting started on tasks that don't have a concrete deadline. Would giving you more deadlines with some flexibility make this easier?" Focus on the specific issue, approach it with curiosity and then work together to find a solution. If you found this helpful and would like to learn more, why not join us on our course: FutureProofing through Inclusion. We'll cover: - neurodiversity - disability - LGBTQIA+ identities and allyship - transgender identities - How it all ties together. Can we do something about Gender Equality in Engineering? For decades people have been working to try to encourage more young women into careers in STEM with limited success. We need to find more effective ways to address this disparity. This should be a concern for everyone. We need more engineers if we are going to address the challenges faces our planet and society in a timely fashion. We need them to be representative of us all to ensure our solutions work for us all. If you would like to lend a hand, please take a few minutes to help the Engineers Ireland's Academic Society identify more ways to encourage (and facilitate) more young women to choose Engineering at third level. We want to hear from students, parents, teachers, engineers and anyone with an opinion or interests in this topic. Please help us by filling out this short survey. https://lnkd.in/eTUTePN8 Please repost this to share with as diverse a group of people as possible.

I’m taking a deeper look at fashion and inclusivity. As an industry that has experienced and designed it all over the centuries, why haven’t we done more to make all main stream clothing suitable for people who live with disabilities? Any form of disability, visible or not. Why haven’t we done more to design clothing that accommodate hypersensitivity to touch and colour sensitivity that can be a daily struggle for people with ASD? I’ve chosen to explore this for my final year project and build a range that offers fashionable, accessible and more sustainably conscious clothing for those living with a disability and/or ASD. But as an able bodied person, I don’t know the details of what it is like not having accessible choices. So below is my survey, if you would like to participate or know someone who would, clink the link. It should take no more than 7 mins and would be so helpful for me to gain a better understanding of how to design this range. Thanks all. https://lnkd.in/etDQX8n6

Dear Network, We are Federica Ostinelli, Anette Pajari, Demian Faas, Ilka Deak, Konsta Savander, Miriana Celeste, and Yanna Seerden and we are a group of students from Italy, Finland, Romania, the Netherlands, and Belgium. Together with our international team, we conduct a study as part of our Service design and sustainability project course at Laurea University of Applied Sciences in Tikkurila. We need your input! Our team is doing a research that focuses on employment inclusion of partially disabled people, especially on those who have non-visible disabilities. We aim to understand if and how your company recruits workers with partial disabilities and what impacts this has. The research is being developed in collaboration with the hashtag #OSTY – Employment of the disabled project, co-founded by the hashtag #EuropeanUnion. ?? WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR? We are particularly interested in the IT sector, but we warmly welcome participation from companies in all sectors, as long as you have less than 250 employees. ??WHY DOES IT MATTER? In an increasingly inclusive world, companies have a huge impact on society. Understanding how they can make a difference and which policies they apply that value the talents of everyone can help others to be part of the inclusion process. ?? THE FORM: You can help us by answering this quick hashtag #form, it will take about seven minutes of your time. Your responses will be treated completely anonymously, and the results will be shared with the OSTY project. The data will be used exclusively by our research team. To participate, please follow this link to the survey: https://lnkd.in/ebS_AhxR ?? Feel free to contact me directly if you want to share your experience or to learn more about the project! ?? If you believe this research could benefit others, feel free to hashtag #share this post so we can reach more participants. Thank you! #inclusion #diversity #research #nonvisibledisabilities #inclusiveworkspace #IT #employmentinclusion #innovation #hr

?? Call for Submissions - 16 Days of Activism 2024 ?? Starting on 25th November 2024, we’ll be sharing 16 pieces of anonymous writing to raise awareness about gender-based violence and its impacts. These submissions will be published on liftorg.co.uk and read aloud on our founders podcast 'Ruled by Magpies' ?? Why this project matters The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence is an international campaign running from November 25th to December 10th. It’s a time dedicated to shedding light on the pervasive issue of gender-based violence and standing in solidarity with those affected. This year, we are inviting you to contribute your voice through writing—whether it’s a personal reflection, a poem, a short story, or any other creative form that speaks to you. ?? How to take part If you feel moved to share something, your writing can be a way to start a conversation, offer insight, or simply raise awareness. Your submission will remain completely anonymous—so whether you choose to share something deeply personal or a creative interpretation, your privacy is respected. ?? Submit your piece anonymously via the form below or by emailing [email protected]. A gentle reminder ?? Before submitting, we encourage you to check in with yourself. Writing about gender-based violence can be emotional, and it’s important that you feel in a safe and supported space to do so. Please don’t put yourself at risk—your well-being is the most important part of this process. Take the time you need, and only share if it feels right for you. Thank you for considering being part of this important project. Together, we can help break the silence and create a space for awareness and healing. #16daysofactivism #endvawg #vawg #feminism #creativewriting https://lnkd.in/eqE2vPRz
