Watch our brief video to learn about the service we provide at our Free Shop. ? We aim to provide clothes and a sense of dignity and self-confidence! There is a lack of clothes and non-food item distribution offered to residents of the closed-controlled access center, which is only available to people considered 'emergency cases'. This denies a change of clothes to people who may require them for personal hygiene, a sense of self-confidence and dignity, and to be able to express autonomy and freedom of choice during their asylum process. ? As winter approaches, our volunteers are starting to plan our winter clothes distribution and we're running low on critical items like jackets, sweaters, and shoes. The majority of people who are on the move are men between 18 and 35 years of age. This means that even with a large stock, we are always low on crucial items such as small and medium T-shirts and small and medium long-sleeve T-shirts; trousers for men; shoes in sizes 40, 41, 42, 43, 44; and jackets. We also aim to provide a wide selection of items for women to be able to freely choose modest and conservative clothing in sizes S, M, and L that fairly represent their preference for style and comfort. Having a steady variety of these items so that each person can freely choose what they prefer is crucial to our commitment to freedom of choice. ?? This is why we ask you to help us fill this gap and prepare for our winter distribution! Donate on our website at samosvolunteers.org/donate Or reach out to learn how you can support us. Let’s work together to keep everyone warm this winter ?? #SamosVolunteers #Volunteer #Greece #NGO #Refugees #RefugeesWelcome #Solidarity #HumanitarianAid #PsychosocialSupport #InformalEducation #Community #Empowerment #SafeSpace #EuropeMustAct #SafeAndLegalRoutes

Imagine a day when you could clean house and get rid of clutter, show someone that you care, gift small things to strangers, and generally making the world a better place. Yes, this day does, in fact, exist and on July 15th we celebrate National Give Something Away Day! It’s better to give than to receive, and this is the aim behind #NationalGiveSomethingAwayDay. “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure” doesn’t literally mean junk or trash, but items that can serve someone else better. The day encourages people to give freely to others without expecting anything in return. This is also a good way to declutter and pass on things that no longer fit us or are useful to us. Most of us undoubtedly have way more items than we need. National Give Something Away Day was established on July 15, 2015, by Linda Eaton Hall-Fulcher, a self-proclaimed giver. Linda advocates giving back to the world. According to her, this day is for everyone who cares. It advocates for giving to friends, family, and the less fortunate; for #MindfulConsumerism; and for being more aware of our #CarbonFootprint. Giving is the simplest act to exist that can brighten up another’s day, and at times really bring about a positive change. Whether it is something small like giving a compliment, giving your friend a jacket of yours that she really likes, or donating clothes to the less fortunate, these little things can have a big impact. Even though giving is a selfless act, the reward goes both ways. We benefit from feeling good about giving and making someone’s day, and at the same time, we also let go of items that we no longer need and are just lying around. We also learn to be grateful for all our blessings and it makes us feel like responsible people who are improving the community. See more about the day here: https://lnkd.in/eBpXqvfJ

Empowering Residents to Give Back Who says volunteering is only for outsiders? Some of the most impactful programs in senior living communities are those where residents themselves become the volunteers. ?? Whether it’s reading to children at local schools, knitting blankets for shelters, or organizing community events, these programs allow residents to stay active, share their skills, and feel a deep sense of purpose. ???? When residents give back, they gain more than just new connections—they experience the joy of making a difference in someone else’s life. ?? What volunteer programs have you seen be most successful? #SeniorLiving #ResidentEmpowerment #VolunteeringWithPurpose #CommunityImpact #ActiveAging

Why not spread the love to our community on a local level this Valentine's Day? ?? If you're wondering how you could do this, consider volunteering or supporting colleagues to volunteer and give up some time to have a positive impact on the local community. This could be mentoring a young person to get into an industry or even ethical charitable giving to local initiatives to provide much needed funds ??. You could show love for the world and aim to reduce your carbon footprint by recycling or switching to energy saving ideas like turning off lights or devices when not in use ??. You could also consider showing love to your workforce by improving wellbeing of employees through better work habits. If you'd like more information about making connections between business and the community, contact us to see if we can help you find your ideal match ??! What is your pledge?! Ahead of our first Day of Giving on Friday 21st June, we are asking you now to think what you can 'give' to make a difference to people in hardship or crisis. This isn't just financial support... there are so many other ways to 'give'. It could be time, ideas, enthusiasm .. our message is we can all do something to help make positive change - and we want to hear how you will get involved. ?? It could be sharing one of our social media posts each week. ?? It could encouraging your business to join our Proud Business Supporter Club over the next year. ?? It could be signing up to our Leicestershire 3 Peaks in September - or even putting a team together. ?? It could be asking us for a poster and putting it up at work or in your community or asking for some of our newsletters to be displayed in your local cafe. ?? It could be nominating us for support at your local supermarket... Let us know in the comments or email us at [email protected] Lots of ideas on our website too (link in the comments). #leicestercharity #rutland #northamptonshire #dayofgiving #whatwillyougive

It's Christmas in June ... aka "#GivingUSA Day." Here's a great summary of what the freshly minted report shows about generosity in America. (Pro tip: Continue to promote #plannedgifts and gifts of #noncashassets.) Thanks to the good folks at The Stelter Company for this informative blog post!

Giving has a way of enriching life in ways I never expected. Volunteering at The Compass Food Bank each week and being part of 100 Women Who Care has shown me how powerful small acts of kindness can be. It’s not just about helping others—it’s also about how much those moments feed my own spirit. How does giving play a role in your life? Maybe it’s offering a listening ear to a friend, lending a hand to a neighbour, or being there for your community. Take a few minutes to write down how giving has impacted you. It’s amazing to see how these actions make life feel more meaningful. #GivingBack?#TeresaRyceCoaching #WomensHealthCoach #NourishTransformThrive

In a world where the pace of life often seems relentless and everyday pressures weigh heavily on us, the concept of giving back might seem like a luxury rather than a practical necessity. However, growing evidence suggests that volunteering at nonprofit organizations like Daystar Life Center not only enriches the lives of others, but can also significantly enhance your own longevity and well-being. There are many compelling reasons why engaging in volunteer work might be a key to a longer, healthier life.
