Thank you to the team at M13 and our guest speaker Margaret Francis, SVP Product at Salesforce for an enlightening fireside chat and dinner on "Being an Effective Manager." Last night, Sapienne partnered with M13 to host a dinner at Holbrook House in SF, focusing on effective management strategies. Some of our favorite tips ?? ?? Proactive Career Development: Early-stage startups often lack structured performance management or career development processes. Take initiative by drafting and regularly updating your job description with your manager. Don't hesitate to ask for real-time feedback after significant tasks or meetings. ??♀? Building Trust as a Manager: Becoming an excellent manager is a journey. The most effective managers aren't perfect, but they excel at building trust with their team. What matters most is ensuring your direct reports know you're invested in their success. ??♀? Continuous Growth: Prioritize environments where you're consistently learning and growing. Even if you're content in your current role, consider interviewing periodically. This practice helps you stay current with industry trends and ensures your compensation aligns with your market value. It's tempting to believe technology makes our lives easier. But managers have become increasingly overwhelmed in the last 30 years. 2024 will soon look like simpler times. Managers thought they were knowledge workers who make information into products. The quantity of incoming information has exploded: ?? Email dumps information in front of them constantly. ?? Endless departmental and cross functional meetings uncovers additional information. ?? Smartphones tempts them to interact with information all weekend long. We all know AI will make this worse. But effective managers are not knowledge workers. They create relationships to build trust and clarify priority. ?? Face-to-face conversations establish connection. ?? Personal interactions that involve emotional investment. ?? Candid, direct feedback that instructs and offers growth without alienating. AI will create more excuses not to build relationships. But the future of management is relationship.

Access Over 4,000 Years of Expert Experience. Ask Me How! ?? Empowering Law Firm Owners To Build Firms That Earn More $ While Working Less ??
Being a good leader has a lot of components to it. Two common consequences of poor leadership is employees leaving or not caring about their role. One element of leadership is making sure your team has the right tools for their job. If you don’t provide what is necessary your team will be ineffective and frustrated. This includes time. If you say you want a task done, but provide insufficient time to do the task, it either won’t be done right, or it may not be done at all. As the leader you can enhance your team by providing them with more training or newer more efficient technologies. Part of being an effective leader is asking how can the team improve on a continuous basis. Part of that is staying up to date with technology and inspecting existing processes. It's the soft skills not software skills. The return of soft skills was the biggest takeaway from the ACT-IAC Emerging Tech conference this week. AI was the belle of the ball, but the underlying concern in every session was the pace of workplace change. Industry leaders were excited about AI, but conversations quickly shifted to the deeper problem - the impact of constant change on people and teams. These leaders doubled down on finding better ways to work together. Companies are hiring for culture and co-building the workplace of the future with their teams. Some were actively hiring management teams with soft skills because, whatever the future will be, it won't look like the present. And teams will need compassionate, proactive leadership to get there. We’re moving to a future where tech will learn to adapt to people faster than people will learn to adapt to tech. But tech will never take the place of the people skills needed to power change. So if you’re adept at change management, great at listening and focused on helping others, your skills will be welcome in every organization.

Digital MOps Manager | RevOps & MOps Consultant at Curao specialized in Manufacturing & Healthcare | HubSpot Solutions Partner | WomenTech Network Member
Having studied psychology, I agree 50%…the therapy works if the client recognizes its accountability, want to change, and take action towards change. No matter how “empathetic”, “nice”, “understanding” we are, if there’s no voluntary and consistent action towards change, the efforts from the therapist will be worthless. Yes, we have to keep in mind managing people is tough, especially when there are multiple point of views and working styles. But change is an universal concept. Either happens or not. It doesn’t happen if only one side is willing to put the effort. Change generates additional change. No relationship, of any kind, works with only ONE ???side promoting change. When it comes to processes, these can be compromised or changed if there’s another process for the change. Again, change generates adding change. You can’t enter to a Coca-Cola manufacturing plant and say you don’t want to follow the process of the assembly line, rather you prefer to start when it pleases you and at the end of the assembly. I dare you. Processes are the assembly line of #RevOps and #MOps. When I work with my teammates or colleagues, I believe I’m working with adults and professionals. Each with a unique skill set, most importantly, empathetic and supportive of the contribution each brings to the table. I do believe we must be respectful, empathetic and every pretty word you want to add, but I also believe that as #RevOps and #MOps leaders is our responsibility to educate about what our work entails. Above all, we must value our work and ourselves enough to speak up for change, or settle to live continually justifying or making excuses for our work to “be understanding” for others. I believe this mindset is unfair when “being understanding” and change are a 2-way street. #marketingoperations #marketing
?? Tech is Easy, People are Hard. That is Why Your End Users Are The Unpredictable Element of RevOps. We can spend time meticulously crafting documentation, conducting detailed training sessions, and creating efficient processes. Yet, there’s an undeniable truth we encounter: technology and systems are predictable; people, on the other hand, are not. It’s a fascinating paradox. When it comes to human behavior in a business environment, the level of predictability just isn’t there. Here’s why managing people is a whole different ball game and requires a different set of skills: ?? Change Resistance: Even the best tools and processes can be rendered ineffective if team members resist change. It’s human nature to cling to familiar ways of working. ??? Communication Nuances: Unlike clear-cut tech commands, communication with people is layered with nuances and interpretations. ?? Creativity and Innovation: People bring creativity to the table, something technology can’t replicate. With this creativity, though, comes unpredictability in thoughts and actions. ???????? Personal Preferences and Styles: Each individual has their unique working style, preferences, and motivations, which can lead to a wide range of responses to the same situation. ?? Feedback and Adaptation: Unlike tech, people provide feedback, express concerns, and require motivation. They are not just users of processes; they are active participants who shape them. So, what’s the takeaway for RevOps Leaders? - Understanding the human element is crucial. Empathy and emotional intelligence are key. - Adaptability in strategies is vital. Be ready to pivot and adjust according to people’s responses. - Continuous communication and engagement with team members are essential for successful implementation of any process or tool. While we can control and predict technology to a great extent, managing people requires a different set of skills – This is the challenging yet rewarding part of working in RevOps. Remember, tech is easy, but people, with all their complexities, are what truly drive success. ??
