Our victory at the Maryland Supreme Court in 2024 reaffirmed a critical truth:?victims and their families have a right to be present, a right to be heard, and a right to meaningfully participate at every stage of the judicial process. While convicted murderer Adnan Syed remains free following the court’s recent decision to reduce his sentence under Maryland’s Juvenile Restoration Act, the broader legacy of this case includes a major step forward for victims’ rights. We are proud to recognize the advocacy and litigation leadership of our Chairman,?David Sanford, whose representation of the Lee family led to a significant victory for crime victims in Maryland. His efforts helped ensure that Hae Min Lee’s family—after years of pain and silence—were granted their rightful voice during the re-sentencing proceedings. We stand with the Lee family and the Maryland Crime Victims' Resource Center, Inc. in their ongoing work to protect and strengthen victims’ rights across Maryland and beyond.
