As 2024 winds down, one has time to reflect on another year that has gone bye. What has one done right; wrong, could have done differently. I have woven my very important #business #propertyeconomic interests into what I believe is behaviour by individuals groups of people eg. bureaucrats, etc. who are in Positions of Trust, supposedly Leading Countries, Companies, Religious Groups, etc. & people that do NOT and are NOT meeting a #codeofconduct that is #reasonable. These things clash with my thinking, my beliefs my Moral Codes and Standards of Conduct. In 2025 I intend to express myself better. To those who I have offended, I am sorry. But if you are WRONG lift your Standards to make this a better place for your Children and Children's Children. Get out of Ukraine, get out of Gaza, Myanmar Military Junta what are you doing there? Etc. etc. But these things arise out of one's upbringing, and I found this interesting published on Facebook: 'I always wondered why I am: #politically & #gender #progressive & #neutral; fiercely #independent; #inventive; #environmentally #conscious; #fair, etc. etc. It was bred deeply into me by my mother and one grandfather. Our family was deeply woven into the textile industry in the town for three + centuries. I also believe in #freedomofexpression & #freedomofspeech; and with BOTH comes #responsibility of #serviceproviders eg. #X, #truthsocial, #Facebook #FoxNews #NewsCorp #Murdoch etc. etc. Lord Russell was MP for Stroud and also the architect of the #GreatReformAct of 1832. The pub was previously Stroud's main post office. It is about #ancestry. Here is an video to prove it. I hope you have all had a Merry Christmas (if you celebrate it) and MAY WE ALL WITHOUT EXCEPTION make it a Happy New Year. https://lnkd.in/g7MJjtCd

Imagine walking into the Department of the Interior, where policies that willfully aimed to erase Indigenous peoples were made. Now picture Deb Haaland—a woman whose grandmother was sent to a boarding school by that very department—leading it. "When I think about why I am really here," Haaland says, "it's like I'm here because the ancestors felt it was necessary." In her office, surrounded by Native American art, Haaland is rewriting history. Her Federal Indian Boarding School Initiative isn't just about uncovering past wrongs—it's paving the way for healing and reparations. But Haaland's vision extends beyond the past. Picture her in Alaska, balancing conservation with community needs as she implements the ambitious "30 by 30" plan to protect 30% of U.S. lands and waters by 2030. Or imagine her in New Mexico, elevating tribal voices in decisions about sacred sites like Chaco Canyon. Through initiatives like elevating tribal consultation in federal decision-making and pushing for the protection of sacred sites, Haaland is creating pathways for increased Indigenous control over ancestral lands - a key goal of the landback movement. Haaland's journey from Laguna Pueblo to Washington, D.C., represents more than symbolic progress. It's a practical demonstration of how Indigenous leadership can reshape federal land management policies. Her work aligns closely with the core principles of the landback movement, emphasizing tribal sovereignty, environmental stewardship, and the return of land management to Indigenous hands. How do you think federal land management could better incorporate Indigenous perspectives and practices? #IndigenousLeadership #LandManagement #Reparations #LandBack #Healing https://lnkd.in/gRe4mWBz

Did you miss our last talk? You can now watch it on our YouTube channel! This lecture took place on 19th of April 2024 as part of the CEDLA Lecture series. Urban Indigeneities: Being Indigenous in the Twenty-First Century SPEAKERS: Andrew Canessa, University of Essex & Dana Brablec, CEDLA (University of Amsterdam) - UvA DISCUSSANT: Adriana Churampi Ramirez, Leiden University Today a majority of Indigenous peoples live in urban areas: they are builders and cleaners, teachers and lawyers, market women and masons, living in towns and cities surrounded by the people and pollution that characterize life for most individuals in the twenty-first century. Despite this basic fact, the vast majority of studies on Indigenous peoples concentrate solely on rural Indigenous populations. Aiming to highlight these often-overlooked communities, this is the first book to look at urban Indigenous peoples globally and present the urban Indigenous experience—not as the exception but as the norm. The contributing essays draw on a wide range of disciplines, including sociology, anthropology, architecture, land economy, and area studies, and are written by both Indigenous and non-Indigenous scholars. The analysis looks at Indigenous people across the world, including five chapters based on the Latin American region. Indigeneity is often seen as being “authentic” when it is practiced in remote rural areas, but these essays show that a vigorous, vibrant, and meaningful indigeneity can be created in urban spaces too. The book challenges many of the imaginaries and tropes of what constitutes “the Indigenous” and offers perspectives and tools to understand a contemporary Indigenous urban reality.
