Should a person plan their #career path? If so, how? Life is always filled with unexpected detours, but some people try their best to plan out their futures. People may say they eventually want to be a manager, director, or something else within their industries/companies. Does it help to plot a career path to that destination? Or, will a plan hurt a person’s ascent? We’ll be covering this topic in an upcoming edition of #GetAhead. Let me know your thoughts in the comments below! #success ? ?? : Getty

That's a really great point you raised here Andrew Seaman as sometimes professionals don't even have clarity & visibility where they want to go. In today's highly dynamic environment (changing technology, new organizations & products) it's really impossible to stick to a fixed path which can be followed towards a 5 or 10 years term goal. How about if you divide the plan into two parts: 1) Have a clear high level goal, what you want to be in next 5 or 10 years as a professional & as a person. How you want to be seen by yourself & by others? 2) Now you have the destination to navigate to. Considering there are many viable & great options to reach that target, then why not be AGILE & follow a step by step approach, trying & testing on the way, see what works & what doesn't, learn on the way, so finally you become what you want to become by responding to the situations around you, rather than reacting to such unexpected variables if you just stick to a fixed plan & end up spending so much unwanted energy. Just to conclude, if you look carefully, this is why most organizations are now biased towards agility rather than wasting time & doing things all over again, so pivoting your career can be no different than what you do at work.
