so glad the alarm is sounding
Recently, I got to sit down with some of my favorite movement leaders to discuss the threat to our democracy and planet posed by Project 2025—a comprehensive plan devised by a coalition of conservative think tanks, spearheaded by the Heritage Foundation. Their objective is to distort the federal government and its policies to align with anti-democratic, authoritarian conservative ideology. For those just getting familiar with Project 2025 and the very real threat it poses, I urge you to watch this video, which captures some of the highlights from my longer conversation with Marisa Franco of Mijente; George Goehl of Addition Collective; and Maurice Mitchell of Working Families Party. We live in complex, challenging times and so much is on the line. Our best bet for a livable future is organized solidarity. It's our strongest tool to understand threats, refine strategies, and envision a country animated by love for our planet and the belief that all life is precious. To support our beloved community in navigating this moment, I’m thrilled to announce Marguerite Casey Foundation’s Summer School: Building A People and Planet-Centered Future. ??? From now through October, MCF Summer School will feature in-person and virtual sessions with movement organizers, partners, and scholars discussing multiracial solidarity, the government we want, how we hold powerful forces accountable, and more. MCF Summer School goals are to: ? Get clear about how we can defeat fascism ? Plant seeds for a bold, progressive future, and ? Support organizing to win a better world There is no better time to come together and build a better future. Join our next session, "The State of Student Protest," on June 13 at 1 PM ET. "Rewarding and insightful!" Three PHC students recently participated in the Pluralist Lab program at Mercatus Center (George Mason University). Ellie was the facilitator and Thairyn and Miranda participated. Read their perspectives: Thairyn: "The pluralist lab was a great opportunity to meet students from another college who were interested in pursuing civil discussions. It was very refreshing for all of us to see that there can be civil discourse even in a seemingly highly divided atmosphere. I highly recommend going to at least one!" Miranda: "It was so refreshing to engage in pertinent civil discourse that accomplished something and didn't become an argument, especially during election season. Both the facilitators and students were polite and reasonable, and our discussions were not only productive but fun!" Ellie: "The lab brought together diverse perspectives, and it helps participants realize that even if you have an opposing view, it is possible to discuss those beliefs in a respectful manner that employs reflective listening. I loved being able to help create a meaningful conversation and reinforce the value of creating spaces where a variety of ideas can be thoughtfully exchanged." Get ready for an electrifying announcement! Tonia Guida, PhD will be leading an engaging discussion titled "Working within the Letter of the Law-Sustaining & Making Sense of DEI Work at UT Austin in the Post SB17 Era" at our upcoming TADOHE Summer Summit. This is a conversation you won't want to miss! Mark your calendar and join us for this vital discussion: https://lnkd.in/ghF-KaQc. The implementation of Senate Bill (SB) 17 in January 2024 changed the ways in which diversity offices operate. Five months post-SB17, we look at how the legislation impacted how our work intersects with faculty, staff, and students. We will discuss major areas impacted by SB17, such as Trainings and Professional Development; Faculty & Staff Recruitment; Student Organizations; and Cultural Heritage Celebrations. The goal of the discussion, in addition to the educational outcomes, is to foster a space of community where participants share knowledge and bring it back to their home institution. The discussion at each roundtable will be led by a panelist from UT Austin. #TADOHESummerSummit?#TADOHE24?#conference?#Texas?#HigherEducation?#Education?#summit?#diversity?#equity?#inclusion

We now have sixty years of quantitative research that represents a continued collected bipartisan effort focusing American taxpayer spending on college success for high school to college to grad school pipelines for bright, low-income, and first-gen students is available through our program's legacies. And it started here: https://lnkd.in/gSEwufbS And it continues here: https://lnkd.in/gUUfCRZY #trioworks (and if you are boggling at bipartisanship- while the loudest, most shocking people pretend the parties are at war, the least loud are working hand in hand to keep America running and consistently keep programs like ours funded for 60+ years. There is no civil war between the actual people who work for us, just a bunch of loud showboating overshadowing the good work and aggressive abuse of social media algorithms ignoring promotion of these efforts.)
