Community Solar's Widening Access to Clean Energy Benefits This first-of-its-kind report from Arcadia assessing the state of community solar energy highlights encouraging momentum for broadening renewable access. With 2/3 of Americans lacking residential solar viability, community projects fill a critical gap, offering climate and cost benefits to millions more households and businesses. Key tailwinds: ?6 gigawatts are already online, offering utility bill relief. ?118% capacity growth is forecast over the next 5 years. ?New state programs are expanding access along with federal policies like IRA tax credits. Yet it's not all smooth sailing. Interconnection delays, local opposition, supply chain, and workforce issues complicate near-term progress. Still, the overall trends look quite promising to democratize renewable energy through Community Solar's unique inclusive model. For firms seeking both social impact and profit through broadening the availability of clean energy, this looks like an opportunity for growth. #microgrids #communitysolar #batterystorage #ira #climatesresilience https://lnkd.in/gFmEUbvt

I’m happy to report some exciting industry news from Wood Mackenzie's most recent US Community Solar Outlook out today. One of community solar’s defining and unique benefits is its ability to deliver meaningful bill savings to small businesses and working families who need it most. Not only is the community solar industry delivering on that promise, but it’s doing so on pace with our goal to provide 4 GWdc of dedicated capacity to low-income residents by 2030. The report projects that with federal and state policy in place, the share of community solar capacity serving LMI subscribers will grow to nearly 25% by 2029 (3.6 GWdc of dedicated capacity). That’s up from 2% just 2 years ago. Exciting stuff! The industry is also set to break 14 GWdc of cumulative capacity by 2029, with a potential capacity increase of 21% in existing markets alone. All this without even mentioning the multiples of potential growth we can unlock by leveraging EPA’s $7B Solar for All funding to create new programs in 8 additional states with pending legislation or regulatory implementation. https://lnkd.in/gm87e2sp #communitysolar #climate #cleanenergy #solarenergy #renewableenergy

Is it better late than never? In the solar industry we think in terms of weeks/months/quarters, but when it comes to meaningful changes, it takes years. While not a glowing review of a program roll out, it is good to see progress in various corners of the market. More than seven years after New Hampshire first approved the idea of using community solar to create savings for low-income households, electric bill discounts are finally on the horizon. Despite how much solar power was pitched as a way to benefit low-income people, efforts to make that happen had previously stalled. New Hampshire had fallen behind many of its peers in terms of using community solar to serve disadvantaged households, so this is good news that hopefully leads to a better trend. #CommunitySolar #RenewableEnergy #SolarPower

Community solar is an important solution for?advancing the transition to sustainable energy sources and providing energy bill relief to lower-income communities who don't have access to rooftop solar. Yet the community solar proposal recently approved by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) threatens to undercut those benefits.?? ??? Generate has spent a decade catalyzing the #communitysolar market through our sustainable infrastructure financing and operating platform, and we want this market to continue to thrive in our home state of California through policies that adequately support its benefits.? ? https://lnkd.in/g7APu2TW??

US to Add 7.3 GW DC of Community Solar by 2029: Wood Mackenzie Report The U.S. community solar market is set to grow significantly, with 7.3 GW DC expected to be added by 2029, bringing total installations to over 14 GW DC, according to a Wood Mackenzie report in partnership with the Coalition for Community Solar Access (CCSA). Despite a projected annual growth rate of 5% through 2026, the market may contract by 11% annually from 2026 to 2029. Legislation in states like Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin could drive additional growth, boosting the market by up to 17% in a bullish scenario. However, the recent decision on California community solar has led to a 14% reduction in the national outlook. Community solar developers are also navigating federal incentives from the Inflation Reduction Act and the Solar for All fund, with 3.6 GW DC expected to serve low-to-moderate income subscribers by 2029. #communitysolar #renewableenergy #solarpower #cleanenergy #sustainability #woodmackenzie #solarpowered #solar

Washington State legislators have introduced the Fair Access to Community Solar Act aimed at expanding access to community solar power for all residents. ?? This new legislation, if passed, will build on past successes to help the state achieve its energy objectives, create jobs, and foster a more sustainable economy. Community solar allows people to subscribe to local solar projects and get credits on their electricity bills. Although Washington was the pioneer in community solar, it currently ranks low in its deployment. The proposed act will create a billing credit system for community solar to make it more accessible and take advantage of state and federal incentives. This move is expected to bring the energy and economic benefits of community solar that other states are already experiencing. This includes reducing high energy costs, and promoting an affordable, equitable, and reliable energy grid for the future.?? Wood Mackenzie’s latest report highlights an exciting milestone for community solar in the U.S., projecting that installed capacity will nearly double in the next five years. This surge underscores the nation’s growing commitment to expanding renewable energy access and highlights the rising popularity of community solar programs. However, while this growth is encouraging, there are challenges. Since 2020, the U.S. community solar market has tripled, yet we are beginning to see signs of slowdown in existing state markets. A notable example is the recent decision in California to reject a coalition plan to boost community solar. This decision alone resulted in a 14% reduction in the five-year national outlook for community solar capacity. The popularity of community solar remains very high, but realizing its full potential requires a coordinated effort to overcome regulatory and financial hurdles. By working together, we can ensure that community solar continues to thrive, bringing clean energy to more communities across the country. #CommunitySolar #InflationReductionAct #RenewableEnergy

Community solar projects are delivering real value to local economies. Recent data from Maine shows almost $30 million in net value generated through distributed solar initiatives - and that's just the beginning. Let's break down why this matters: → Price Stability While traditional energy sources remain vulnerable to global market volatility, community solar offers predictable, stable pricing. Think locally produced, locally consumed energy that's insulated from international supply chain disruptions. → Energy Access The beauty of community solar? It's not just for property owners. Local businesses, nonprofits, and residents in multi-family housing can all benefit from clean energy savings - no rooftop required. Maine’s NEB (Community Solar) program is one of the more established in the country and continues to be revised (3 times in the last 4 years) to better serve the state. Solar currently only makes up 5% of Maine’s electrical costs - meaning there is room to grow. Community solar can be a key factor in combatting the significant electric price spikes being seen in Maine. *** Read more about it here: https://lnkd.in/epRXmcff
