??? On this World Children's Day, Samuel Hall is proud to announce a new milestone in our decade-long collaboration with Save the Children International through the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Over the years, we have worked tirelessly to amplify the voices of displaced and returning children in Afghanistan—particularly girls—while addressing the impacts of conflict, climate change, and limited access to essential services. ??At a time when data on children’s needs is becoming harder to access, and socio-political challenges are growing increasingly complex, this partnership allows us to deepen our commitment to protecting children’s rights. Together, we aim to advance impactful research, strengthen community capacity, and deliver evidence-based solutions to shape the policies and practices that influence children’s lives. ?? Our Focus on Climate Change A key area of our collaboration includes a participatory study on climate risks and their impact on children. This study assesses vulnerabilities across sectors critical to children—education, healthcare, WASH, nutrition, and child protection—while mapping resource allocation from international aid to household spending. By identifying the gaps and opportunities, we aim to ensure that children’s needs are front and centre in climate adaptation strategies. ?? What This MoU Covers: ??Collaborative research projects to generate actionable insights on key challenges facing children. ??Capacity-building initiatives to empower communities and stakeholders to protect children’s rights. ??Advocacy efforts to translate evidence into impactful policy and practice. ??Knowledge-sharing platforms to amplify voices from the field and inform global responses. ??This partnership reflects our shared commitment to addressing the interconnected challenges children face today—whether from climate change, conflict, or systemic barriers. At the ongoing COP29 Azerbaijan in Baku, IOM - UN Migration and UNICEF signed a four-year strategic agreement to bring to the forefront issues around children, youth, migration, and displacement. This aligns closely with our work in Afghanistan on Climate Landscape Analysis for Children (CLAC) and with Save the Children. Today is the World Children’s Day According to the UNICEF report, in the decade of 2050-2059, climate and environmental crises are expected to become even more widespread, with 8 times as many #children exposed to extreme heatwaves, 3 times as many exposed to extreme river #floods, and nearly twice as many exposed to extreme wildfires, compared to the 2000s. “The projections in this report demonstrate that the decisions world leaders make today – or fail to make – define the world children will inherit" The State of the World’s Children 2024?underscores the importance of centering child rights, as outlined in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, in all strategies, policies and actions. The climate crisis is a child rights crisis. It is the youngest who suffer the most as a result of climate change. This has a direct impact on their lives, including their health, access to services, education, food security, protection and participation. The climate crisis is affecting the children's rights - we need to be vocal about this and, above all, empower children and young people in the debate. Tomorrow, as part of the Climate Revolution Festival in #Konin, there will be a workshop where young climate activists from #Djibouti will talk about how the climate crisis is affecting the lives of young people in the country, what they are doing to raise awareness on the issue, and what challenges they are facing. An important voice in the debate! UNICEF Poland

Delivering ambitious, implementable and financeable NDCs 3.0 in Sub-Saharan Africa It was a pleasure to represent UNICEF at the NDC Partner Coordination Meeting for Sub-Saharan Africa today, where we discussed how partners can support the formulation and implementation of the next round of national contributions. What we are doing at UNICEF in Eastern and Southern Africa: ?? Financial support: for NDC tracking, stocktaking processes, implementation plans, consultation workshops with governments, partners and children ?? Technical support: to integrate child-sensitive goals and thematic targets, especially for social sectors and climate-resilient essential services (education, nutrition, health, WASH, child protection, social protection, SBC, gender, disability inclusion & more); providing recommendations, toolkits & briefing workshops to help governments formulate and implement child-friendly NDCs ?? Data & evidence: sharing data, evidence on children's disproportionate climate vulnerability as well as actionable recommendations; offering a data platform of NDC child-friendliness ?? Facilitating inclusion of children and youth: Organizing capacity building and consultation workshops for children and young people to influence NDC processes, implementing large-scale U-Report polls to capture the voices of the young generation, offering operational guidance for integrating child perspectives into NDCs ?? Advocacy: Leveraging our strategic outreach channels to highlight child-sensitive policy recommendations, providing country-specific advocacy briefs and events Resources: UNICEF's NDC 3.0 Toolkit: https://lnkd.in/eEQzwbk7 Global Dashboard: Child-sensitive NDC Data Platform:?https://lnkd.in/eEKppueB UNICEF Policy Briefings on Climate Change and Children: https://lnkd.in/eGq-fuRb A big shoutout to our climate focal points in ESAR country offices that are doing incredible work with governments as well as our global climate policy champions - and of course our partners at UN Climate Change, UNDP, NDC Partnership, UN Environment Programme, UN Country Teams, African Development Bank Group, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, IOM - UN Migration, World Resources Institute & many more UN, civil society and youth-led organizations.

Recap of International Children's Day Celebrations by Save the Children International in Laos This year, we did something very special to celebrate Children's Day with children in six provinces: 1. Vientiane Capital: We launched our new climate campaign, #ChildrenChangingourClimateFuture, with students at Xon Pao school. Listening to children and young people share their insights on climate change was eye-opening, revealing significant challenges but also inspiring us to work harder to protect children’s rights affected by the climate crisis. Witness the passion, dedication, intellect, and technological know-how these young individuals bring to the battle against climate change here: https://bit.ly/4c7XfoG 2. Luang Prabang Province: Our Child Protection team collaborated with the Luang Prabang Province Laos Women's Union to conduct events in five districts. The objective was to promote child rights and raise awareness about preventing violence against children. The newly amended prohibition of corporal punishment by the Laos government was also highlighted. Learn more about the event and see pictures here: https://bit.ly/3yW2oBS 3. Vientiane, Xiengkhaung, Attapue, and Champasak Provinces: Our Learn to Read project, supported by USAID, celebrated Children's Day with reading festivals across these four provinces. Most importantly, teaching kids about the environment protection through trees planting and distibuting during the event was one of the key achivements in intergrating climate resilience into the project work. It's great that we have engaged with more children and youth this year on Children's Day! The success of these events exceeded our expectations and brought meaningful experiences to all SCI staff for the efforts in promoting children's rights and empowering children and youth to achieve their interests throughout the events.

As we approach the start of the High-Level week at the 79th UN General Assembly, UNICEF is at the forefront, advocating for urgent actions to prioritize children’s health in the face of global challenges. I am excited to participate alongside UNICEF colleagues in key events this week, where we will focus on various topics, including strengthening health systems and expanding equitable access to essential services, for every child. On September 23, I will join global leaders for a The Task Force for Global Health, Inc. Roundtable, showcasing four decades of lessons from global health partnerships to tackle emerging challenges for children, and charting the way forward. This is a critical moment to emphasize solutions that can transform health systems and deliver for the most vulnerable. Later that day, UNICEF will partner with USAID to launch the Global Partnership for a Lead-Free Future. This initiative will address the devastating effects of lead poisoning, which continues to harm millions of children, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. I am proud to be part of this effort to protect children from such a preventable threat. Finally, on September 26, #UNGA79 will convene the 2nd High-Level Meeting on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), which will spotlight the urgent need to combat AMR, a growing crisis that disproportionately affects children. We must act now to prevent a global health catastrophe. UNICEF is committed to pushing for investments in child health, empowering health workers and the communities they live in, and ensuring that every child, no matter where they live, can thrive. The time for action is now, and I look forward to working with partners and leaders to make lasting change for children around the world. #ForEveryChild https://lnkd.in/dBfFwkZE
