Director of HR at Innovus

At Innovus, our strength lies in our diversity, and we take pride in being a workplace that embraces individuals from all faiths and backgrounds. Each of us contributes to the vibrant tapestry that makes Innovus a unique and inclusive place to work. Today, February 1st, we celebrate World Hijab Day, and we want to reinforce our commitment to fostering an environment where everyone feels valued, respected, and a true sense of belonging. To honour this special day, we've had the privilege of hearing from three of our colleagues who wear the hijab so we could share with the rest of our colleagues the importance of the hijab in their lives and how Innovus can further support them. Their stories remind us of the richness that diversity brings to our workplace. Below in an extract from the interviews; What does wearing a Hijab mean to you? Aneesa:?Security, wearing it defines me as a Muslim and allows me to observe modesty. I couldn’t live without my hijab, it’s part of me. I didn’t wear one during school but then decided later on - it was a personal choice. What would help others to understand?? Aneesa: Some people get frightened and think it is compulsory. Islam does not force women to wear it, it is a personal choice. I like to talk about religion and help others understand more about Islam, so don’t be scared to ask questions. ? Nayeemah: People can see it as restrictive as they don’t understand the meaning behind it. It has been given to Muslim women to guard their modesty and people don’t fully understand that. It is empowering. Raising awareness on it is so important. Hopefully people will reach out and ask questions. I am more than happy to explain. What support do you need in the workplace, if any? Rida: Have worked in places before where I have been the only hijabi, I don’t feel like that here. Thank you to Rida, Nayeemah and Aneesa for speaking so openly to help raise awareness and share their beliefs with the rest of us. #weareinnovus

Looking after all things people related at Innovus

People from outside of the Muslim world often make so many assumptions about the hijab and it is so refreshing to work in an environment where our female Muslim colleagues are proud and happy to speak about their religion and culture and their personal experience within it and that so many of our other colleagues are really interested to understand.
