Just spent an inspiring Saturday at the The University of Texas at Dallas UX Conference, and I'm buzzing with the energy and insights from the day. It was a day filled with reconnecting, learning, and envisioning the future of design. ?? Highlights of the Day: Networking: Had the wonderful opportunity to connect with bright students and recent graduates. The talent and enthusiasm in the room were palpable, and it's heartening to know that as our economy expands, we'll have a pool of incredible talent ready to step in and make a difference. ?? Reunions: It's always a pleasure to see old friends and colleagues like Adam, J Schuh, Gregory, and more. Sharing stories, updates, and laughs about our journeys added a special touch to the day. ?? Inspirational Talks: Lauren Hasson's talk was nothing short of awe-inspiring. Hearing about her journey and success was a powerful reminder of what passion and perseverance can achieve. J’s talk provided a comprehensive look at the small, everyday actions we can take to continually improve and advance. Both were incredibly motivating. ?? My Contribution: I had the honor of speaking about design convergence and the future roles of designers across various fields. My focus was on ethics and integrity in design and the creation of systems and technologies that not only improve our societies but also foster better humanity within us. It was a dialogue about the potential we have, as designers, to truly make a difference in the world. ??Looking Forward: This conference has been a source of inspiration and a reminder of the community we're building together in the UX world. As we move forward, I'm excited about the potential to collaborate with the fresh talent I met today and to see how together, we can shape a future that reflects our highest values and aspirations. A big thank you to the organizers Vincent Joubarne, Norm Cox, and the whole UX club at UTD, speakers, and attendees for making this conference a memorable and enriching experience. Let's keep pushing boundaries and envisioning a world where design plays a pivotal role in our evolution as a society. How can designers and teams prepare for the future and what should they be looking for? Product design, growth design, product strategy, and product management are going to continue to get closer and closer to each other. The activities and outcomes are already starting to bleed over and teams are trying to figure out who is responsible for what. Product design in the future will be able to move fast, test quicker, and have access to real data sooner and that should change how designers work. Designers will get out of static design tools and be able to build living products by themselves, making their impact on teams even larger. Design strategists will be the builders of the future. Confusion over who determines the core "problems to solve" fuels friction in product teams. IDEO places this within design's "desirability" realm, but Marty Cagan positions it as the PM's "value" domain. Many designers resist this narrower scope. I believe the key is having someone deeply connected to customer needs defining those problems. This could be the PM, designer, or even shared (as Teresa Torres suggests). Above all, clarity is vital! Don't leave your design team feeling disempowered – be explicit about their role in shaping product value.

Incorporating inclusive and equitable design practices results in: 1. Reaching new users who are underserved by existing products by designing solutions that authentically connect with them 2. Developing more differentiated products with new features, potentially unlocking new market opportunities and revenue streams 3. Just had one of those a-ha moments at IDEO that opened my way of thinking in a big way. At IDEO, one of our superpowers is building to think, or as we often say: getting makey! Sacrificial concepts and early prototypes are tools that help us bridge from uncertainty to clarity fast. Stuart Getty was encouraging our project team to lean into this superpower and goes: “WORDS ARE PROTOTYPES. (drops mic). As a non-traditional designer who did not inherit my family’s talent in the visual arts, I too often take a backseat to prototyping activities, thinking they require a skillset I simply don’t have. So here is a reminder to all my fellow wordsmiths out there: Words. Are. Prototypes. That tagline, one-liner, written concept: prototype. Keep on making – in whatever medium works for you.

Balancing Pharmaceuticals??and Design ???? I am a Quality Assurance supervisor in a pharmaceutical industry and Yet I design ?? LinkedIn asked if I am still working as Quality Assurance because all my post is now about Design ?????? I never thought I’d be managing two careers, but here I am by day, working in pharmaceutical quality assurance, and by night, designing apps and websites. In both roles, attention to detail is key. In Quality Assurance (QA), I ensure that every product meets strict quality standards. In design, I create seamless user experiences with that same precision. Balancing these two worlds is challenging but rewarding. The discipline from pharmaceuticals helps me approach design with structure and focus, while design allows me to tap into my creative side. It’s not about choosing one over the other—it’s about making space for both passions. Embracing Anarchy: A New Frontier in Product Design ???? I’ve attended “Product is…anarchy”, a fascinating product design event organized by Paul Woodley ?? ??, featuring a super fun and inspiring talk by Kevin Stewart. The focus was on disrupting the systematic ways we approach product design. We often get so focused on methods and long processes that we lose sight of true creativity. Kevin made me realize that while rigid design processes within the team are valuable tools for organisations, our focus should be on the freedom of the mind with the right amount of constraints to fuel innovation?? Anarchy isn't about chaos. It's about being open to unexpected opportunities and breaking free from rigid processes that can blind us to new solutions. I had the chance to participate in the discussions, and this experience has shifted my perspective on design ???? Fun and welcoming environment with insightful conversations with fellow attendees! ??
