This is bananas to me. This is why it’s so important to do your research on sales companies you plan on joining. Let’s say you got a job offer for an enterprise role and you’re mulling on joining either Company A and Company B. You end up choosing Company B because the OTE is higher. Smart choice right? Not quite, especially when given some context that the sales team at Company B’s quota attainment is 61%(!!!) lower. And their culture is worse. Oh, and their product-market fit is awful. Company B has a ping pong table though...
As much as I believe in this, these have to be taken with a grain of salt. There are plenty of people who are afraid of working hard and feel like they don’t have to. When they’re not getting what they want or are held accountable to what they signed up, they kick and scream. Regardless of the online reviews, do your research by asking to talk to more people on their team. If you’re interviewing for a sales role, ask to talk to a sales rep. If they keep that from happening, you have your answer.
Plus tenure is likely so short at Company B, most reps are probably just coming off ramp before they leave...
Take a hard look at the 'total comp,' for example, what does the benefits package look like? How much does the potential employer contribute to defraying your costs for medical and what do their plan options cover? Do they do any matching on 401k, HSA's, and other investment/retirment vehicles? These are just a few examples than can equate to thousands of $'s. If you only look at base + comp, you're missing a big chunk of the equation.
The issue is also that both companies probably said the exact same thing in the interview process. TY for your support Matt Green!
So important to know what your walking into. Do your research folks!! Great resource share Matt Green
It's so nice being able to have more insight when looking for a job now and it being less of a black box.
