????That part. The amount of times I had to literally make something out of nothing in mere seconds, all without breaking a sweat... in front of millions. And my mistakes? Well, those aired in front of millions, too. My time in television sharpened so many valuable skills that allow me to thrive both in life and in my new career now. Improvisation. Humility. Learning to fail gracefully. Conflict resolution. Critical thinking. Versatility. Creativity. Effective communication. Adaptability. Inquisitiveness. Intellectual curiosity. Situational awareness. Tenacity. Grit. The ability to overcome adversity. Receiving and responding to feedback and criticism with compassion. The list goes on and on. There is no better teacher than a newsroom. If you’re looking for candidates that will make good assets in quite literally any environment, someone with Television experience on their resume is an excellent place to start.

Here are a few more reasons to hire a former journalist: *We can quickly assimilate information and repackage it in a compelling way for a wide-ranging audience. *We collaborate well and work independently with minimal supervision. *We know how to talk to people and build trusting relationships. I'll add another layer to this clip by Hannah Davis that I've experienced: a bystander, such as a camera operator, PR person, or spectator, trying to get your attention as well.

Crazy!! This was an article written by tv producer Deborah (Debbie) Mitchell for Entreprenuer.com back in 2015! It's even more relevant today as Hollywood undergoes a catastrophic evolution and thousands of producers are asking "What's Next?" As an EP/Showrunner/Writer/Director/Producer looking for opportunities outside the industry, I see no need to rewrite what Deborah so eloquently described nearly 10 years ago. You really can't go wrong by hiring a producer for almost any job out there. Need a high level executive assistant or office manager? Need a project manager? Need a creative director? Need an event planner? Communications? Media Relations? Educator? Writer? Whatever you got - we'll figure it out. That's what we do. And we do it efficiently, with laser focus, with attention to detail, delivering on budget and on deadline. So what are you waiting for? #hireaproducer #producersrock https://lnkd.in/gQVUJ5K5

Fractional Chief Communications Officers are the future. Don't know what we are? Check out this awesome explainer from Mixing Board and my friend Roberto Munoz.
I’m a Fractional Chief Comms Officer. "What’s that," you ask? I break it down with my friend and fellow comms guru, Sarah Kissko Hersh. Full article in comments?? In short: Fractionals have the same responsibilities as our in-house counterparts, but we’re part time. It’s an executive-level leader without the full-time financial commitment. But it's much, much more... Thanks to Sean Garrett and Maggie Shapiro from the Mixing Board for publishing and spreading the good word.?

Comms pros help their clients to "deliver" positive media coverage--which can help them build credibility, brand awareness, and trust--while advertising execs work with their clients to "place" ads in the media. A critical (yet too often misunderstood) distinction.
Eugh - another #communications director vacancy which has this as a requirement: 'You will have a track-record of placing media coverage.' Nobody 'places' media coverage, but the myth endures. You could (like yours truly) have a track-record of 'delivering' media coverage, but that's not the same thing. When it comes to #mediarelations there are no guarantees, nor should there be. Despite what some believe, this isn't a world based on favours, on nudges and winks. Effective comms pros know how to develop a narrative, and tell a compelling story. It is this that results in coverage. It's like building a car. Not parking it.

Dear non-Entertainment Industry executives: Read this. Oh, you’ve launched 3 startups? Cool cool. Try launching several new shows shows per year, every year, for 20 years. Each show is a new startup- new budgets, staff, office space, equipment, vendors, HR, accounting, development, production, delivery, wrap out… Do it again… And again… And again… For decades. Producers move mountains. If you want a badass who will show up, crush sh$t and make you look great, hire a Producer like Paulina Williams , Deborah (Debbie) Mitchell or thousands of other brilliant souls who are now out of work. It's been two years since starting my business in Van Nuys, and I've observed a common trend among artists, actors, and musicians. Many seem to believe they are the best thing since home-cooked bread. When promoting yourself or your project, thorough research is key. Understanding proper communication channels can make a significant difference. If you're considering hiring a Public Relations firm, be prepared for costs ranging from four to twenty-five thousand dollars. Additionally, having a manager and publicist is essential. #BusinessInsights #PR #CommunicationSkills

“Do you regret spending the first ten years of your career working in TV news?” Someone asked me that question last week. My answer was an immediate “no.” While I now work in the social media and corporate communications world, the decade of my career I spent in news allowed me to develop skills that I still use every day. *Covered breaking news nearly every day?--> ?able to effectively communicate in high stakes moments *Cultivated sources around the entire viewing area --> skilled at building relationships across a highly matrixed organization *Acted as education beat reporter --> able to take complex topics and create content that consumers can understand *Met VERY tight deadlines --> able to project manage and work with a team *Found and sourced three news story ideas every day ahead of editorial meeting --> I can find storytelling opportunities everywhere *Anchored multiple hours of live news programming --> comfortable acting as a spokesperson for my organization *Shot and edited my own stories at my first news job --> I can edit video very quickly If you left the news industry to work in corporate communications, what TV news skills do you find are really useful in your current role?
