WHAT'S YOUR "WHY" Saint Mark's High School brothers, Tyler and Kyle Iudica are proud to continue their Spartan Family Legacy, but what led them to their decision to enroll at Saint Mark's High School from H.B. du Pont Middle School?! "I chose Saint Mark's High School because it felt like home from the start. The open house revealed exciting academic plans, solidifying it as the perfect place for my education. Conversations with coaches were crucial in helping me decide because sports are integral to who I am. Hearing President Tom Fertal express his dedication and plans for improvements, made me know that I was standing in the school of my future." -Tyler Iudica '25 "Choosing Saint Mark's High School was an easy decision for me. It's the only school that felt like home from the first time I stepped on campus. Growing up, attending events with my proud alumni parents created a strong connection. The good class sizes and a range of Honors level courses made the decision even easier. Additionally, the opportunities in the sports programs got me genuinely excited to attend. Saint Marks is a tight-knit community, focusing not just on education but also on forming meaningful connections beyond the classroom." - Kyle Iudica '27 Spartans, what is your "WHY"? Why will you select Saint Mark's for high school? Enrollment agreements for the Saint Mark's Class of 2028 are due February 15th. Due to the immense interest in Saint Mark's High School, awards that are not claimed by 2/15 will be terminated. Admitted students who do not enroll by 2/15 cannot be guaranteed a seat in the Saint Mark's Class of 2028. ???? BRACKET ALERT: Pell % ????: What if the colleges that valued low-income students the most won the most basketball games? In our last bracket, we showed you the schools that have the most Pell Grant recipients. Grand Canyon won big with over 28,000 Pell Grant recipients enrolled. That said, Grand Canyon has nearly 120,000 students total: Four times the size of UNC, seven times the size of Duke, and a whopping SIXTY times the size of Davidson (not in the tournament this year... we're not going to talk about that). With that many students, OF COURSE Grand Canyon is going to win big on a total number of Pell Grant recipients measure. So, we also looked at the enrollment at each of the March Madness Round of 64 teams to see which institutions have the largest group of Pell Grant recipients as a percentage of their student bodies. Again, some historical basketball powers don't even make it out of the first round. UConn (24%) is upset by Stetson (36%). Long Beach State (50%) gets the upset against Arizona (28%). Vermont (14%) barely slips past Duke (12%). And again, Houston books a ticket to the Final Four. Not only are the Cougars excellent at basketball, but they also enroll a massive number of Pell Grant recipients (around 16,000) making up two students for every five students (41%) on campus. The Final Four is made up of FAU (36%), Long Beach State (50%), Houston (41%), and Grambling (75%). Grambling is a remarkable story here - three out of every four students at that HBCU are Pell Grant recipients. Grambling, of course, wins the Pell Percentage bracket with a healthy 75%-50% victory over Long Beach State, another Minority Serving Institution (46% Hispanic/Latino/a/x).

As we near the finish line of another school year, we want to celebrate our student-athletes and the profound lessons gained through high school sports. While we acknowledge and celebrate these accomplishments, it's also an opportune time to look toward the future of education-based athletics in Indiana. As an Association, we have always aimed to approach the future by listening to our membership and the needs of their school communities. Of course, we are aware that public perception, at times, has suggested otherwise—that we operate behind closed doors. However, that is not the case. We do not exist in an echo chamber. We are active listeners who take action—when appropriate—in response to what we hear. That is why in 2024-25 the Association will conduct a study on what the transfer process may look like in the future. We are spearheading this effort because we empathize with families burdened by making school choice decisions before high school. Furthermore, in today's era of school choice—particularly in urban areas—we realize that families are sometimes forced to reassess the education paths for their children. To be clear, this study is not an avenue to make athletically driven transfers possible. Instead, this study aims to explore solutions that provide families with flexibility while preserving the integrity of our education-based athletic programs. The 2024-25 transfers study will follow the same philosophy that drives the straw polls we conduct at area principal meetings yearly. And it aligns with the same principles that govern our sectional realignment process (https://bit.ly/3RmPcwA). It is another example demonstrating how essential it is for the Association to listen to its membership, understand the needs of our school communities, and take action to protect and preserve the integrity of high school sports in Indiana. Like we always have been, we will continue to be your IHSAA. (Read the entire Spring Spectator Newsletter here: https://bit.ly/3RvAu6j) #ThisIsYourIHSAA #EducationBasedAthletics #HighSchoolSports

I help parents reach their family’s college goals AND serve schools, companies, and organizations to engage, retain, and serve parent members/employees.
There are many parts to successful college planning for families. ? One of my top recommendations is for families to have bimonthly or quarterly meetings about college, careers, and life.? ? These discussions keep family members, engaged, involved, and connected while also giving support and encouragement. ? ? Also, families can build college and career connections through shared activities. ? * Watch a college graduation. Celebrate with those on screen & discuss your plans. ? * Talk about family finances & how to meet college goals. ? * Take a virtual college tour together & share comments.? * Watch or attend a college athletic event together. ? ? Want to save time, avoid mistakes, and accelerate results?? ? Get or gift a College Planning Audit for 9th-12th grade students & their parents at https://lnkd.in/g6Nxy_BY.? ? Take an early start to a collegetastic new year. ? ? MGM College Services LLC #familycollegeplanning #collegegoals #parents #Blackparents #firstgen #imfirst #highschool #homeschool

???? BRACKET ALERT: Pell Enrollment????: What if the colleges that enrolled the most low-income students won the most basketball games? When thinking about equity and access to a college education, policymakers often consider Pell Grants - federal grants given to undergraduates from low-income families - as a major tool in the fight for affordability. We decided to put together a March Madness Bracket that predicts basketball wins based on which colleges enroll the most Pell Grant recipients. More Pell Grant recipients enrolled? More wins. Some perennial basketball powers - Duke, UNC, UConn, and Kentucky - don't even make it to Sweet Sixteen. No. 1 seed Houston does very well and makes the final four, along with BYU and Texas. Oft-maligned Grand Canyon, however, enrolls over 28,000 Pell Grant recipients each year, soundly beating Houston in the final. Grand Canyon has about 10,000 more Pell Grant recipients enrolled than the previous seven NCAA MBB teams to win the championship - UConn, Kansas, Baylor, Virginia, Villanova, UNC, and Duke - combined.

?? The Impact of SEC Football on Higher Education Institutions in the South ?? With the Georgia Bulldogs coming to Tuscaloosa, for what is sure to be the most-watched game in the country, I wanted to share my thoughts on the impact SEC Football has had on higher education in the south. The Southeastern Conference (SEC) is more than just a powerhouse in college athletics; it’s reshaping higher education in the South. Here are some key insights into this fascinating intersection: 1. Economic Boosts: SEC football generates significant revenue through ticket sales, merchandise, and TV contracts. This influx allows universities to invest in academic programs, facilities, and student services. 2. Increased Enrollment: Successful teams elevate a university's profile, attracting more students and diversifying the student body. Programs like LSU and Florida have effectively leveraged their athletic success to promote academics. 3. Cultural Identity: College football fosters community engagement and school spirit. Game days bring together students, alumni, and locals, creating a sense of belonging that enhances retention and civic involvement. 4. Navigating Challenges: The spotlight on athletics can sometimes overshadow academics. Universities face the challenge of maintaining integrity while competing at high levels, ensuring that student-athletes excel both on the field and in the classroom. 5. Future Considerations: As college athletics evolve, institutions must balance their athletic ambitions with educational missions. Prioritizing academic success for student-athletes is crucial for sustainable growth. In summary, SEC football's influence on higher education is profound. By embracing a holistic approach, universities can harness this power to enrich their educational missions and positively impact their communities. #HigherEducation #SECFootball #CollegeAthletics #CommunityEngagement #StudentSuccess #EducationMatters #RollTide
