In 2023 the number of work related farm fatalities in Victoria halved from the previous year. In 2024 the number doubled for the previous year. Farmers themselves, and members of their immediate families, are over represented in the numbers. Farmers not only need to think about health and safety in the context of their legal responsibilities to their employees, but also in the context of their own safety and that of their families. in 2025 Safer Farms Victoria remains committed to doing as much as is humanly possible to inform, educate and influence so as to reduce the rate of incidents as possible. https://lnkd.in/gaS3fnDs

Good, affordable and practical solutions that will make a positive difference to reducing injuries ????????
As calving season approaches, the risk of sprain and strain injuries for dairy farmers rises. To tackle this, DairyNZ’s three-year Reducing Sprains and Strains project involved scientists and farmers co-designing practical solutions to keep farmers injury-free and productive during their busiest season. Dr. Callum Eastwood, DairyNZ senior scientist, highlights that the overall aim was to reduce lost time and productivity and support farmers' wellbeing, especially during calving. In 2022 and 2023, there were about 1,500 claims, totalling $5-6 million to ACC each year. By collaborating directly with farmers, the project has designed, tested, and refined innovative products like the Easy-Entry Calf Trailer Gate and Easy-Access Calf Pen Gate. These solutions are already making a difference and are now available through Kea Trailers and Gallagher. Funded by ACC New Zealand's Workplace Injury Prevention Grants programme and DairyNZ, this project is a prime example of how collective effort can lead to tangible, farm-ready innovations. Follow the link to read the full story and discover more about the project’s outcomes. ?? See the innovations at Fieldays? ?? Join us at the DairyNZ stand (Pavilion at site PC44) from June 12-15 at Mystery Creek, Hamilton and see the Easy-Entry Calf Trailer Gate and Easy-Access Calf Pen Gate.

???? **National Farm Safety and Health Week** ???? As we celebrate National Farm Safety and Health Week, let’s take a moment to reflect on the vital importance of safety in our agricultural communities. Farming is not just a livelihood; it's a way of life that nourishes our families and feeds the world. This week, let’s prioritize the well-being of our farmers, workers, and their families. Here are a few reminders to keep safety at the forefront: 1. **Regular Training**: Ensure that everyone on the farm is trained in the proper use of equipment and understands safety protocols. 2. **Emergency Preparedness**: Have a plan in place for emergencies. Conduct drills and ensure everyone knows their roles. 3. **Mental Health Matters**: Farming can be stressful. Let’s support one another and prioritize mental well-being. 4. **Protective Gear**: Always wear appropriate protective equipment and encourage others to do the same. 5. **Community Engagement**: Share safety tips and experiences within our community. Together, we can create a safer farming environment. Let’s commit to making safety a priority every day, not just this week. Together, we can cultivate a culture of health and safety in agriculture. #FarmSafety #Agriculture #HealthAndSafety #NationalFarmSafetyAndHealthWeek #CommunitySupport

It’s interesting that consumers of animal products self report wanting the details of how their food was produced. Because the reality is if these labels were as direct, honest and graphically illustrated as those on cigarettes, it would totally kill the industry. Imagine going to buy salmon and there’s a picture of a lice-infested animal with gaping open wounds and it’s skull poking out swimming in filth and it just says “this animal knew nothing but suffering, day and night” Or going to buy a chicken fillet and it’s just got a photo of a lame, genetically modified franken chicken: legs broken under the weight of its unnaturally fast growing body, amonia burns from being stuck in its own excrement, plucked bare by its cage mates and the warning says: “this animal never knew grass, daylight or veterinary treatment” Because this sort of horror is what undercover investigators consistently find, even on supposedly “high welfare” farms assured by RSPCA assured, Red Tractor, etc. It’s one thing ignoring a warning on cigarettes that are only harming yourself, it’s another being actually confronted with the full extent of the harm you’re causing to other living beings with every single purchase. I worry that what people want here is sanitised and dishonest labelling. Like purchasers or Red Tractor or RSPCA assured, they want to be sold a lie to anaesthetise their moral conscience. Cruelty free food is already labelled - it’s labelled vegan.
Poll results out today show that two thirds of Brits want clear labelling on meat and dairy products to show the conditions the animals were raised. The nationwide poll, carried out by Savanta on our behalf, found that only 6% of people were opposed to the labelling. Honest labelling empowers consumers, is fairer to farmers, and – most importantly – could help improve the lives of millions of animals each year. We're now urging the Government to act on these polling figures and publish the results of the labelling consultation carried out in March. Read more here: https://bit.ly/3ZojILj

We were proud to take part in the ‘Break the Cycle’ 1km ride at the National Ploughing Association / Championships for the #Aware campaign ??, helping raise awareness of mental health in rural Ireland. Big shout out to the Irish Farmers Journal and Tirlán for highlighting this important issue. We all know mental health is critical in farming, and while awareness is vital, we need to get to the root causes, of which the financial pressures farmers face is a major contributor. At Concept Dairy? ??, we believe fair pay is vital for real positive change in our farming communities. Price transparency is a must. We're pushing for mandatory price reporting and giving farmers the tools to take control of their prices—especially in these volatile times. We believe that if the sector comes together and demands price transparency, we can transform the supply chain for the benefit of everyone involved: farmers, processors, and buyers. ???Everyone in?#dairy?benefits from?Concept Dairy? #DairyIndustry #DairySector #MentalHealthAwareness #MentalHealthMonth #FutureOfFarming #FarmerMentalHealth

ANYTHING CAN MISS IF THERE IS FOOD ON THE TABLE. WE MUST APPRECIATE FARMERS.Food is a fundamental necessity that sustains us, and when it's available, we can face and overcome many challenges. This phrase emphasizes that with food security, we can endure difficulties, hardships, and even sacrifices in other areas of life. When our basic needs are met, we gain strength, courage, and resilience to tackle life's obstacles. Food on the table represents stability, comfort, and hope. It allows us to focus on other aspects of life, like education, personal growth, and relationships. This phrase also reminds us to be grateful for the simple things and appreciate the blessings we often take for granted. In essence, "anything can miss if there is food on the table" encourages us to prioritize our well-being, acknowledge the power of basic needs, and recognize that with sustenance, we can face life's challenges with dignity and determination. By appreciating the value of food security, we can find strength in the face of adversity and navigate life's journey with greater ease and gratitude.
Let’s start the week by appreciating the hands nourishing the world. Farmers’ dedication and hard work ensure we have food on our tables. Thank you, farmers! Happy New Week! #togetherwefarmforthefuture #newweek #Farmers
