It's Consular Officer moving season again. How do I know? Well, first, it's the same time of year every year. Second, the Key Officers list that the State Department issues ~every month had a lot of blank spots in it. [Editors Note: For some reason, the July edition of this isn't showing up any more. I think it's a technical issue.] What does Consular Officer moving season mean to practitioners? It means that key leaders at posts have moved on and that new officers who have recently completed training are cycling into posts around the world. For folks who frequently have to resolve consular issues on an expedited basis or who are faced with emergencies, it can mean that you can't find the contact information for someone when you really need it. How do we navigate this challenge? I'm sharing my thoughts on strategy in this week's edition of Consular Update. It'll be out this afternoon. Please see the link below to subscribe.

Did they read the contract? . . . I read a news item yesterday about the 14 Ghanaian migrants who have been caught up in the Russia- Ukraine war. They had been lured by promises of securing a well- paid job in Russia but their hopes immediately faded after they were confronted with the reality on the ground that they would be the frontliners of the war upon their arrival in Russia. They were told that the well paid job was a security work but they would be trained by the military. When the contract was brought to them by the military, they thought it was the contract of their training. So they then called the person who lured them if they should sign the contract . They went ahead and signed the contract because the person who lured them gave them the go ahead to do so. And now, they are suffering and calling for rescue in the middle of the war. But the question is “ Did they read the contract ?” Here are some tips?? Before Signing a contract or an agreement, you must ; ?Always read the entire contract carefully ? Understand all terms and conditions ? Ask questions to clarify your doubts ? Seek legal advice Also, always look out for these red flags in a contract. ? Unclear or ambiguous language ? Unreasonable expectations ? Lack of exit clauses Let’s be very careful and take time to read before signing agreements to prevent unexpected situations. Have a good afternoon LinkedIners??

https://lnkd.in/dUu8PuPm. And here is the proof why it is not for this government to do numbers and creating frivolous rules. For example, with my level of education-post graduate and +30 years of local experience, being about 8-9 on government scale, PPRA do not have enough willingness to allow me for their exam, which require level 4-matric. They charge fee for own recognition, but than request this to be done by another gov body SAQA, (established 10 years after previous gov body HSRC done this work in 84), to do this for them for which I am supposed to pay again. I am not alone here. This is the level of inability to make decision facts based by qualified attorneys, appointees at government positions. Obviously there are exceptions, but they are not the appreciated one usually. ????????

I talk a lot about working overseas as a government contractor, but not everyone is familiar with these roles that allow you to live and work overseas for the US Federal Government or Government Contractor companies. So here’s my breakdown. Overseas government contractors work with the US Government and military to protect systems outside of the country. You also can work with foreign militaries as well on Foreign Military Sales (FMS) programs. I’ll get into the differences between the two in another post. If you have family or friends in the military who deploy overseas, they’ll tell you about working with civilian contractors who were bringing in a lot of money. In GovTech roles specifically, overseas government contractors make some serious cash. By 25, I was earning more than $225,000 yearly overseas with a good portion of it being tax-free.? ? What’s the catch? ? Nothing…besides needing to go live overseas. 40% of Americans have never left the United States, so that will be a dealbreaker for many. But if you can stomach living abroad, you’ll be finally free.? ? The reason that you need to live overseas to become an overseas government contractor in GovTech is because you’re expected to be onsite at your work location. ? You’ll also have to put in more of a time commitment than you do a traditional 9-5. Many overseas government contractor roles require a minimum of 50 hours per week. Now on paper, that’s a lot. But in practice, it’s not that bad. A lot of that time is spent waiting for something to happen after you finish your daily tasks.? ? There’s a positive in this negative though. While on the clock, you can work on your tech skills and get certifications or work on a degree with your extra downtime. Which is pretty nice considering the company you are working for will pay for your degree and certifications. ? I think that being an overseas government contractor has been the single most important career move that I have ever made and I’ll never regret it. Living in Japan, Taiwan, and S. Korea protecting our nation, and being able to travel the world was a life-changing experience. I talk more about how to become an overseas government contractor in this YouTube video: https://lnkd.in/dv8fH8AH Did you find this post helpful? If so, reshare it to help others ?? #technology #government #hiring
