At SA Expeditions, we believe in the transformative power of travel to raise awareness and champion conservation. Our dedication continues with the Great Inca Trail, an extraordinary 616-kilometer ancient road network connecting 308 archaeological sites across six countries—a remarkable testament to the ingenuity of the Inca Empire. Recently, our CEO, Nick Stanziano, took part in an esteemed forum uniting public and private tourism leaders. The event, titled “From the Great Inca Route to the Great Inca Trail: 25 Years of Awareness and Tourism on the Qhapaq ?an,” focused on the trail's rich history and the collective efforts needed for its preservation and promotion. Nick shared powerful reflections from his personal journey hiking along the entire Qhapaq ?an, providing insight into its historical and cultural importance. He highlighted its status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, drawing comparisons to world-famous routes like China's Tea Horse Road and Yosemite's trails in the U.S. Learn more about the significance of the Great Inca Trail and how to walk the trails: https://lnkd.in/g2HaTzmp #BeMoved #SAExpeditions #Qhapaq?an #GreatIncaTrail #GreatIncaroute #CaminoVivo #ElGranCaminoInca

If you could travel anywhere in the world where would you visit????……. For me it is Machu Picchu in Peru. I learned about it when studying history at school. Facts: ??It’s a UNESCO world heritage site ?? The name Machu Picchu means “old peak” in Quechua, the language of the Inca. The dwellings at the site were probably built and occupied from the mid-1400s to the early or mid-1500s. ?? It is one of the most important archaeological sites in South America, providing valuable insights into the Inca civilization and its sophisticated construction techniques, social and political organisation , and way of life. Unfortunately it is now closed to visitors due significant environmental damage to the landscape and the ruins by people's footsteps, garbage, and others actions. Reminding us to be a conscious and responsible traveller. Being a conscious traveller and travelling responsibly matters. By being a responsible traveller, you can help preserve local communities and cultures, contribute to local economies, and help preserve the environment and wildlife too. Here is a picture of me in Santorini, Greece. #saturday #saturdayinsights #thoughtleader #20daylinkedinchallengewithhaoma

Tahiti, the principal and most celebrated isle in French Polynesia, commands a territory as vast as Europe, comprising five archipelagos: Society, Gambier, Marquesas, Tuamotu, and Austral. This Polynesian expanse lies remotely, demanding an eight-hour voyage by air from California and a full day’s journey from London. While French and Tahitian are the predominant tongues, English prevalently echoes through bustling tourist locales and hospitable accommodations. Envisioning French Polynesia typically conjures images of an idyllic South Sea haven, replete with alabaster sands encircled by limpid, turquoise lagoons—a vision that, in truth, matches the actual serenity. Yet, beyond its paradisiacal coastlines, the islands boast towering mountains, dormant volcanic craters, verdant tropical woodlands, and natural preserves recognized globally, such as Fakarava’s UNESCO biosphere and Raiatea’s World Heritage Site. The vibrant tapestry of ancient cultures thrives here, embraced by the famously cordial inhabitants. Among the 118 isles scattered across the archipelagos, each offers a distinctive allure, inviting exploration to uncover their singular enchantments during your visit.

Honoring World Heritage Day: Celebrating Our Shared Cultural and Natural Treasures As World Heritage Day approaches on April 18th, it's time to reflect on the significance of preserving and protecting our world's most cherished cultural and natural sites. This annual observance serves as a reminder of the importance of safeguarding these treasures for future generations to enjoy and appreciate. World Heritage Day, also known as International Day for Monuments and Sites, was established by the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) in 1982. The date was chosen to coincide with the anniversary of the founding of ICOMOS on April 18th, 1982. Since then, World Heritage Day has been celebrated annually to raise awareness about the diversity of cultural heritage and the efforts needed to conserve it. The significance of World Heritage Day lies in its ability to draw attention to the importance of preserving our cultural and natural heritage. It serves as a platform for promoting awareness about the value of these sites in terms of their historical, cultural, and environmental significance. By recognizing and celebrating World Heritage Day, we reaffirm our commitment to protecting these sites and promoting sustainable tourism practices. Cultural heritage sites encompass a wide range of tangible and intangible assets, including historic buildings, archaeological sites, monuments, and traditional practices. These sites serve as a link to our past, providing valuable insights into the history, traditions, and cultural identity of communities around the world. By preserving cultural heritage, we not only safeguard our collective memory but also promote cross-cultural understanding and appreciation. In addition to cultural heritage, World Heritage Day also highlights the importance of protecting our natural heritage. From pristine wilderness areas to iconic landscapes, natural heritage sites play a vital role in preserving biodiversity and ecosystem services. By conserving these sites, we ensure the continued survival of endangered species, mitigate the impacts of climate change, and provide opportunities for outdoor recreation and ecotourism. Whether through advocacy, education, or sustainable tourism initiatives, each of us has a role to play in safeguarding our cultural and natural heritage for future generations. By working together, we can ensure that these sites remain sources of inspiration, wonder, and appreciation for years to come.
