Well, we're officially halfway through January and I haven't written a New Year's post. I realize that no one really cares about my “2024 update,” per se, but 2024 has been such a monumental year that I feel compelled to share a few insights. Over the past few years (2020–23), the churn of a global pandemic, several personal tragedies, and career changes had me feeling like I was barely treading water in life. This past year, however, truly turned things around for me and helped me clarify goals and priorities for the years ahead. If you happen to feel like you’re treading water, keep going and look for opportunities to follow new currents—you might just find fresh inspiration and productivity.?? With a heart full of gratitude, I want to highlight a few aspects that made 2024 shine for me: 1.) FAMILY: Chris and I worked hard to build the right support team to help our family overcome some challenges. I’m so grateful for his partnership and support throughout the year. Anyone who knows me well understands that’s not an easy task!?? 2.) WORK: Work is such an essential part of the human experience, and this year, I was proud and inspired every day to be part of our incredible team at Camp4 Collective. The level of talent, professionalism, collaboration, and sheer grit everyone poured into our work was so motivating. I can’t wait to keep the momentum going in 2025. We’ve got a lot of exciting news and projects to share soon, so stay tuned!? 3.) HEALTH: This summer, I ran seven Wasatch Trail Series races and the Moab Trail Half Marathon. While I’ve always been a runner, competition has taken a backseat since becoming a mom. It felt amazing to set a consistent schedule of healthy challenges and fun.?? I can’t wait to catapult into 2025 with more energy and purpose. I wish you all a wonderful year of hope, creativity, productivity, and joy. ?? https://lnkd.in/g-VhCT8H

So this is happening today!! There’s loads of stats out there about how long new businesses survive. Apparently there was a high likelihood of us not making it to three!!! Guess we know what MDA Limited can do with those stats!! What have i learnt over these last three years? Mainly that everyone has an opinion on what you should and shouldn’t do as a business owner. ?? You shouldn’t get an office ——— Well we did!!! ?? You shouldn’t guarantee results ——— Well we do!!! ?? You should be careful how you market yourself ——— nah you’re ok thanks But here’s the thing, if you’re running a business, it’s yours! Your time, your dedication, your vision, your risk!! Run it how you want and don’t take advice from people who pivot more than the American political system!! And most importantly, remember who wasn’t there at the beginning but turns up when the success comes!! Hope you have all had a good week. ?? Turning Air Time into Prime Time ?? Too often, people view time on a plane as “lost” time—scrolling endlessly, watching movies, or just zoning out. But here’s the thing: every moment has potential. On this flight, I’m using the hours to dive deep into planning for my business, jotting down new ideas, and preparing for my next sales training session. This isn’t just a business trip, though. It’s also a deeply personal one. I’m visiting a dear relative who is very sick. It’s a tough situation, but one that reminds me of the importance of balancing ambition with connection. By working during the flight and taking this time to be with my family, I’m practicing what I call work-life integration—not compartmentalizing, but weaving the personal and professional together in a way that feels meaningful. We all have the same 24 hours. How you use them matters. An honest LI post from someone who actually knows what they are talking about! I’m in the process of publishing a series of posts which demonstrate real life existing installations to remind the protagonists and zealots from all camps (including my own) the realities of our industry when they make spurious generic claims and/or assumptions which (and this is my beef) can easily mislead others if believed and heaven forbid then applied in the field. Having read the comments and comment responses to some of my posts then all I can say is that I do hope that the protagonists and zealots have robust Professional Indemnity insurance policies in place! Cue zealots! Let’s get it straight, in terms of Consumer Rights Act tests, a correctly designed and installed heating system will do what the designer intended it to, and the end user and the courts expect it to, irrespective of whether the emitters were sized at 82C, 70C, 55C, 45C, 35C, etc. as long as that design sizing temperature matches the optimum appliance flow temp at the design point external temperature. What doesn’t perform as intended is a mismatch between the appliance flow temp and the flow temperature that the heat emitters were sized to at design external temperature. We’ve had this issue of underperforming systems at the coldest times of year back when standard efficiency boilers (82C flow) were replaced with “high efficiency” condensing boilers (70C flow). Cue zealots! Why would a householder actually replace their existing heating system to simply replace one energy source with another potentially higher cost energy source? Not everyone can afford or even contemplate affording their own personal carbon reduction aspirations, should they have them, but when capital needs spending on a distress purchase the opportunity is there to reduce future running costs (in business terms - overheads) via energy consumption reduction which also reduces emissions but via freedom of their own affordability choice. Cue zealots! We know the basics, you only need the max energy output at design conditions and when it’s warmer outside than the external design temp then a “smaller” lower output “boiler” and radiators would be appropriate. Where automatic output reduction has not been achievable historically then on/off room thermostats and TRV’s played their part but they don’t stop a boiler unesceserily firing at 25kW when only 10kW is needed. Irrespective of fuel source or type, appliance output modulation and control of flow temperatures can achieve this but this requires control systems which match output flow temps to the actual temperature differential between inside and out (weather compensated) to match heat emitter output to heat demand such as via OpenTherm protocol. Cue zealots! Every household circumstance is different as every domestic heating engineer knows, that’s why engineers need best available technology choices to provide customers with cost effective solutions. Cue zealots!
