Apple today announced the new M4 Mac Mini. A truly impressive piece of hardware with a smaller footprint, all around way better hardware specs, and then decide the put the power button UNDER IT. Who thought this was a good idea?
People love to complain about these things. How often do you actually need to press the power button?!
That’s true, sorry in advance to any org that’s going to stack these pucks in a DC.
Well, if you talk about UX, it’s the same for a tower, go completely underneath your desk to power it up, or my work laptop, open the lid press the button and out it back in the dock… then I prefer this button position. Secondly, I can imagine the 5x5 was a goal, including the airflow and if you watch the announcement, also the thinner aluminum case are steps they made to decide to put the button there. “Everything has a reason”, or perhaps they just did it so that we discuss a lot about it, and promote it even more ????.
The power button underneath is an extremely clever idea because it ensures air flow and ventilation are being properly maintained.
The same people that put the lightning connector on the bottom of the magic mouse.
my cats love to step on my keyboard on my desk... the less buttons they can press, the better ??
Why would you ever turn it off?
They want to eliminate the power button so this version goes half way. Bigger issue is M4 with no 1T storage? The IPad Pro has better storage options.
I still have the original Mini with M1 processor. Its a great bit of kit . I am not sure if I need one of these as my M1 is working well. But for the price I may just buy one

4 个月To be fair. It is no longer necessary to power down devices often. They will simply enter a sleep state so in rare case you need to power it off there is a button. They run basically mobile chips like in iPad/iPhone, how often do you force power off an iPhone or iPad? Make it difficult to accidentally press it as well while keeping clean minimalist look. Apple TV etc just follows simple minimalist design. I'm just glad they included an ethernet port ??
